We had the good fortune of connecting with Rob Amato and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rob, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
The way I approach work life balance is to make sure that work I am doing is always fun, because then I am not looking at getting it done just to complete the task, I want to finish it until it is where I want it. When it comes to Designing for brand or Clients I enjoy it and there are also some days where I am not in the mood to design but just want to meet up with friends for lunch or a Cigar. Then there are sometimes where I am just inspired to design and before I know it 5 hours have gone by and I have designed 1 or 2 new pieces that will go into my collection. So it comes pretty easy to break up the work life balance, Over time my idea about the balance has changed with more downtown to get recharged and inspired, when I was younger I was all about the work all the time. Now, I try to have some time each day for myself and friends and family, 1 hour for the gym in the morning and at least a few hours for friends and family usually in the early evening, the time both inspires and reminds me to keep pushing to do better. The balance for me works because it allows me to work and grow the business as well as have time for myself, Friends and Family, Everyone will need to find the balance that works for them, for me I will work 7 days a week but its not always 10 – 12 hours a day some days are only 3 or 4 hours of working on a design or project, some people may need 2 full days off and if that works for you that’s what you will need to create the balance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
How I got to where I am professionally was thought hard work and learning along the way and learning the businesses from scratch, for me that was the best part, it wasn’t easy because I had to learn on the job so to speak. I enjoyed it though because each step I learned the process and the ins and outs of the business so I have a better understating of doing it again. What I would want the world to know about my brand is that, Each design that is created will be unique but will fit in to a larger overall collection, I want it to be one of the best pieces that my customers will purchase, weather its for the design or the for fit and feel.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The shutouts for me are my close friends that have supported me all along the way by buying pieces from the brand or hiring me for co-branding projects to the get the brands name out there, and people getting to see the designs and my family most importantly my mom who has supported my idea of creating the brand from the day I told her about the idea for the brand.
