We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Poliszuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first came out of physical therapy school in 2017 I worked for a clinic that was busy to say the least. Three to 5 patients an hour was the usual. Impossible to focus on each individual patient, it was like falling down a hill all day until you finally crashed at 7:00 PM, unsatisfied with the quality of treatment you provided. The sad thing is is that most clinics operate this way. This is why I created Physiologix Sports Physical Therapy. I wanted to give one on one care to my patients and provide that best possible care of them. People who are truly motivated, get themselves better. My dreams of helping those in need the way I wanted to have been for fulfilled, and I would recommend starting your own business like this to anyone who feels that their career is being bastardized by corporate policy, greed or someone undervaluing they’re worth.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business up in 2018 after my previous experience working in crowded and hectic clinics. I was excited to finally practice my career the way I wanted: one on one with people who really were excited to get better and have the necessary motivation to work with me to help them move, feel and perform better in their daily lives! I started off very small with almost no professional contacts here in Miami. When I was in physical therapy school I had made connections with classmates and professors, but when I was thrusted from the friendly confines of UM’s facilities and into the real Miami I had to start networking and getting to know the community surrounding me from its base. I would spend days networking and marketing to local doctors offices and group fitness classes in the Miami area. I was denied, ignored, and told that I wasn’t needed in many an office all Miami-Dade. As you can tell, this was not an easy process. Seeing the successes of my colleagues online and within the region made me feel like I wasn’t making the progress that I needed to to actually be a success or that I didn’t know how to run my  business effectively. I tried to not let this get to me as I know that everyone has their own struggles and pace on the road to creating something special. When marketing and meeting business owners around town, I ran into one of the most open minded gym owners in Miami: Angel Bajana of Elev8tion Fitness. We worked out a plan where I could set up shop inside of his gym to treat my patients and their gym members. Inside this massive facility I met a large group of like-minded health and fitness individuals who shared my same business aspirations and worked with clients who would routinely get injured or need help with aches and pains. Working alongside of these amazing people taught me a few things about personal training and I taught them a few things about keeping their clientele healthy. It really feels like we’re working together to create a healthier and stronger world here in South Florida!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
1. I would probably start off by taking them to the obvious: Miami Beach. I would quickly want to get rid of all their desire to do the annoying touristy stuff like eat at a restaurant along Ocean Drive and just chill on the beach.

2. After that I’ll probably take them to Wynwood. I love Wynwood because it has a lot of unique perspective and art that a lot of people don’t even think of when they imagine what Miami would be like.

3. This may also seems super touristy but I don’t go there enough and I want an excuse to: Monty’s. I’ll take them to the Coconut Grove restaurant because it is fun, lighthearted and it has pretty decent food so I think I can satisfy their urge to go to a tiki bar and my urge to eat their cheeseburger!
