We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodney Germain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are Germain’s, a small black owned business with bold intentions. We offer a not-so-classic fried chicken sandwich and aim to provide fast, fresh food without being labeled as ”fast food”. Our local ingredients pack a flavorful punch that has you wanting more. We are community driven and aim to serve everyone with an impactful experience.
For as long as I can remember, I have been surrounded by delicious meals. In my teenage years, I worked in kitchens and took on every position possible. I was a busboy, a waiter, a cook, and even a kitchen manager. My efforts to reach the “top” (whatever that means) were rewarded with a plateau. I was comfortable. I was furloughed during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, which was a blessing in disguise. The rest is history. I stepped out of my comfort zone and moved to Gainesville.
Germain’s has played a major role in creating a sense of community and providing exceptional service since its opening about two years. The Business began hosting pop-up events at a local coffee shop (Wyatts) until we were able to branch out and attend other local events . We were then able to purchase a food trailer and now have our first brick and mortar that opened up this past November.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many nice spots here in Gainesville. There are so many awesome businesses in this area, so my list is growing rapidly.
I would recommend: In no particular order
-Sunshine records Shop
-Afternoon restaurant
-DJ’s cast iron burger
-Serpentine
-Swamp Religion food truck
-Wyatt’s Coffee
-Halo Potato Donuts
-Flashbacks Thrift Store
-Bragging Rights Arcade
-Punk Outer Games Shop
-Ginnie Springs
-Daylight Donuts
-Grove Street Farmers Market
These are the ones that come to mind, but I’m sure I’m missing some.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, of course! It would be impossible for me to begin without giving thanks to God. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for my faith and my commitment to Christ as the foundation of our business. Additionally, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the Germain’s team, my family in West Palm Beach, and all of the Gainesville residents and business owners who continue to support Germain’s.
