We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodolfo Roman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rodolfo, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As a parent of three children, I have made sure to be a blueprint that my kids can follow to be successful. To get to where I am today, there were many trials and tribulations I needed to face to achieve my dream. There were many doubts and insecurities but having a positive mindset and persistent allowed me to obtain my goal. There were many times were I just hanged up my boots and settled for what was in front of me, but something inside made me continue to believe and I thank my patience for that. Patience is a virtue and that is something I want to incorporate into my children.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently, I appear on the Paramount + network on a weekly basis commentating for the mixed martial arts promotion Combate Global. It is wonderful to be able to share the stories of the fighters that battle inside la jaula. Just to get inside la jaula takes a lot of sacrifice that people are not aware of and I get to share that with the audience. At times, many of our fans can gravitate to the trials and tribulations fighters go through which serves as an inspiration.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Miami all my life, the area has changed a lot. It used to be that we were known for the Cuban culture but now this city has become an area full of diversity. You have to remember, Miami is fairly young compared to the New Yorks and Chicagos, but we do have our own culture, which is combination of Hispanics and now I am seeing Asians and Europeans calling the 305 their home. Can you believe, I had South African food in Miami! But that is the city we are, we are more than just Cuban food. We literally have many cultures I am thankful for that because I am able to learn from my fellow Miamians. If you visit the town, number one on the list is of course the beach, but enjoying some Cuban Coffee in Little Havana, Russian sweets in Sunny Isles or a Central American dish in Sweetwater would be my suggestion, but don’t forget the beautiful Everglades is just a drive away where you’ll be able to see our beautiful nature habitat.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents deserve a lot of credit. Despite many obstacles, they were able to provide the essentials to survive. They left their country to start new after facing political turmoil. I was born in this beautiful country, and they were able to have me and raise me here where I was able to accomplish my goals and make them proud. Also, my wife steps up to the plate when I have to work late night covering fights or when I have to travel. Being a parent is a job in itself and allowing me to work in what I love knowing my children are safe is awesome.
