We had the good fortune of connecting with Rose Rosado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rose, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m proud to be Puerto Rican and I was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. Growing up in the Bronx wasn’t always easy but it taught me to be strong. I was bullied as a kid, which of course would affect anyone and cause insecurities, but it also led to me finding my passions. I had a long journey of learning to love myself and becoming confident in who I am. If you know me, I’m a very outgoing person and won’t try to be someone that I’m not. With every person I meet, I’m very genuine and what you see is what you get. I can be weird, very talkative, or too energetic but that’s me. Being bullied made me never want to make anyone else feel insecure or left out. I’m always very nice and I guess I take that extra step to make sure people feel included because we all deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. In some ways, this led me to my passion of helping others and sharing that message of self-love. I pursued my master’s degree in Counseling and started working in the mental health field. In addition to this, modeling became a passion for me because it pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and build my confidence. It also gave me a way to show others that we can all be beautiful and love the different physical features we have.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I’ve modeled on and off as a hobby, but I decided to pursue it very seriously during the pandemic; great timing right? What I’m most proud of so far is my recent billboard on Times Square. It was an incredible feeling to see myself on a big screen and get to share that moment with my parents. I modeled for the first time in high school when a friend of mine was doing fashion shows and he thought I would be a good fit. This was completely out of my comfort zone, but I decided to give it a try and I loved it. Since then, I’ve moved into doing more commercial work and I learned this was a better fit for me because it let me show more of my personality. I get to do a wide variety of work and I love that every day is something new. Modeling didn’t come easy for me, and I definitely had challenges with insecurities about being too skinny, too short, having a weird nose, etc. Not every casting I went to called me back, but I learned that it wasn’t always about me. Every project is looking for a certain person and sometimes I don’t fit that. For the work I did book, I learned to appreciate my Latina features and embrace them. What I want people to know about me is that I like to encourage others to be their most genuine selves. My “brand” is about going after your dreams and taking risks. I always say that everyone should try things at least once because that one experience can completely change your perspective of the world. As cliché as it is, we only get one life and there is so much joy we can find in it so why not go out there and find what makes us happy?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, we would definitely go for a walk anywhere in the city. I love walking because you get to see nice views, explore different areas, and get some exercise. My favorite place to roam around is Central Park and recently I’ve recently liked going near the Brooklyn Bridge. If it’s summer/spring, we have to go to a rooftop for brunch, maybe have a picnic on Roosevelt Island, and check out a festival or event because NYC always has something going on. If it’s fall/winter, we have to check out all the Christmas decorations and ice skating is #1 on the list. It’s so much fun to skate and you have to be able to laugh at yourself if you fall. I would also take them to Koreatown because it’s my favorite place to go to for great food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh I definitely have to start by giving a shoutout to my mom. When I tell you this woman is the definition of a great support system, I mean it. Whatever dreams or goals I had, she pushed me to be better. Whatever challenges I faced, she was right there with me going through all of the emotions. There may have been times where she didn’t agree with a choice I made, but she still supported me and didn’t judge me if it didn’t work out. When I think of modeling, I think of my mom always going to my rehearsals and making friends with everyone. It was hilarious to go somewhere and have them excited to see my mom or asking me why she didn’t come if she missed a day. My mom and I have worked on our relationship and became best friends. I’m grateful to have someone like her in my life because she shows me what kind of mom I want to be in the future. I also want to give a shoutout to my friends and people I’ve met throughout my modeling career. I love meeting people who radiate positive energy, are supportive, and don’t make everything feel like a competition. I genuinely appreciate every bit of support I get and it helps me stay motivated.
