We had the good fortune of connecting with RoseMarie Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RoseMarie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a busy mother of six, I’ve learned how to crochet without looking. It’s something that just happened when my oldest son Yusuf was about two years old. I had to find time to crochet until I learned how to crochet by just feeling what I’m doing. The mental health benefits that comes with crochet keeps the stress levels down so that help with work-life balance.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What keeps me busy professionally is being a trendsetter in the crochet community. I feel what sets me apart from others, I’m not afraid to share what my work with the world. I’ve noticed that when we hit the runway in Miami during Miami swim week, July 2022 the attitude towards crochet swimwear has changed.

I’m grateful for my ability to set crochet trends.

I’m a freehand crochet designer, I don’t go crazy looking for patterns every time a new trends pops up. I just make my own. The feeling of finishing a look, and it’s exactly what you imagined is so great.

I’m proud of being able to influence other designers. Maybe I’m just lighting a fire under them LOL. Now they see that the world is paying attention to what we’re doing. Plus crochet is a trend that will always be around.

I was told by a crochet designer, that I inspired her to start doing fashion shows.

That brought a smile to my face.

It’s so much talent in the crochet community,

we have something to say!!

I got where I am today professionally by staying consistent. You have to care about what you’re doing. It wasn’t easy to get others to believe in my crochet swimwear. When your consistent in your work, it speaks for itself

Yubehandmade is so sexy and different.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I would take them on a cruise of south beach to see the millionaire homes & Venetian Island. A day of a yacht to soak up some sun.

My son loves jet skiing, that would be something nice to do. I’ll be the camera person because I’m a little scary. Then watch the sunset on the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Angelique Wilson, she’s a Master hair stylist from Detroit and the first entrepreneur that showed me that anything is possible. She’s also my big sister. I would like to shout out All my customers for always supporting Yubehandmade and YUBE yarn collection. I’ve been in business for 23years and I still have a lot of the same customers. Stacie Jackson of Pink Joy crochet, Jerome DuPont Photography. Jerry A Barnes photography, Shalanria from HOT Commodity Eyewear. I would like to shout out my husband and children for always understanding me when I have to stop talking to count my stitches lol.
