We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruben Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruben, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing most people don’t realize about the luxury interior design industry is how deeply personal and psychological the process is. It’s not just about aesthetics or following trends—it’s about uncovering a client’s unique story and translating that into a space that feels like an extension of who they are. That’s why at Errez Design, we focus on biographical design—a process that goes beyond surface-level beauty to create interiors that reflect the soul of the people who live in them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At Errez Design, our work goes beyond just creating beautiful spaces—we practice biographical design, which means every project is a deeply personal reflection of the people who live in it. Instead of imposing a signature style, we uncover our clients’ unique stories, values, and aspirations, then translate that into interiors that feel authentic, lived-in, and meaningful. That’s what sets us apart.

I’m most proud of how we’ve helped people feel truly at home in their spaces—not just visually, but emotionally. Seeing a client walk into their finished home and feel an instant connection, like it was always meant to be that way, is what excites me the most.

Getting to where we are today wasn’t easy. The luxury design industry is competitive, and shifting the focus from trends to personal storytelling required a different way of thinking—both for us and our clients. Early on, we had to educate people on the value of biographical design and show them that their home could be more than just stylish; it could be a meaningful reflection of their life. By staying true to our philosophy and delivering spaces that deeply resonated with our clients, we built trust and proved that great design is not just about aesthetics, but about creating an emotional connection to a space.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that great design is never just about the things in a space—it’s about how those things make people feel. That’s the heart of biographical design and the essence of what we do at Errez Design.

What I want the world to know is that your home should be a reflection of you—not just a collection of expensive pieces or trendy looks, but a space that tells your story in a way that feels deeply personal and undeniably yours.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is a city of contrasts—bold, vibrant, luxurious, and deeply rooted in culture. If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d curate an experience that captures the essence of what makes Miami so special.

We’d start the day with breakfast at Threefold Cafe in Coral Gables, where their Brekkie Sanga is an absolute must. From there, we’d spend the morning on the water—either cruising on a boat along Biscayne Bay or soaking up the sun on one of Miami’s stunning beaches.

Afterward, we’d take a leisurely stroll through Coconut Grove, Miami’s oldest neighborhood, where banyan trees canopy the streets and bohemian charm meets old-world elegance. While there, we’d stop for light bites at Narbona Market, a hidden gem for artisanal treats, followed by a scoop (or two) of uniquely crafted flavors at Salt & Straw.

To end the night in true Miami style, we’d indulge in a show at the Faena Theater, an intimate, red-velvet-clad space that feels like stepping into a Gatsby-era dream. Afterward, we’d sip cocktails in the glamorous Faena Living Room, where the gilded interiors and sultry ambiance make for the perfect Miami nightcap.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey in luxury interior design has been shaped by so many incredible influences. First and foremost, I have to give credit to my partner and co-founder at Errez Design, Katie Gutierrez. Her vision, creativity, and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping our approach to biographical design—transforming interiors into deeply personal reflections of the people who live in them.

Beyond that, I’m grateful for the amazing mentors and colleagues who have inspired me along the way, as well as the clients who trust us to bring their stories to life through design. And, of course, Miami itself has been a huge influence—the city’s bold energy, rich culture, and Miami Maximalism aesthetic have all played a role in shaping my creative perspective.

It truly takes a village, and I’m honored to be surrounded by such an incredible community!
