We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruby Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruby, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Everything has been a learning process, and at times it has not been easy. There have been times that I have been discouraged and tired, but somehow, I still pull through, and I remember why I started this. I am still learning so much, and part of being an entrepreneur is being humble and realizing that there are always new things for you to learn, and that is the only way you will grow. Learning and growth go hand in hand in business and in life. There are so many lessons that I have learned in this journey, and one of the main ones is sticking to your vision no matter what other people advise you to do. People with a lot more business experience than you will try to tell you to change certain things about your brand because they think they know better. Stick with your vision, and if you think it works and you are not sure about changing it, don’t do it. Sticking to my vision and my brand has been the number one lesson I am most thankful for.

What should our readers know about your business?
My intention was never to start a business. I started developing natural soaps and shea butter products for my son, who had developed severe eczema on his hands. I was tired of dermatologists recommended products not working, and I wanted to approach it more naturally. I had to create my own natural products to help his skin problems. I started playing with different recipes, and I stuck with all-natural and organic ingredients. Soon after, I fell so much in love with the art and craft of making soaps that I started making them for friends and family. They loved my creations so much that I decided to start selling my soaps to help people with the same problem as my son. On October 1st, 2018, I sold my first soap to a coworker. On that day, I promised myself to give my everything to this, and Cleansing Essentials was officially born. All my products are vegan, and I only use sustainably-sourced ingredients. You will never find products with honey, tallow, or goats milk at Cleansing Essentials. I use minimal to zero plastic, and all packaging is environmentally friendly. I am passionate about protecting our environment, which is one of our missions, and one of the things that sets us apart from other soap and skincare brands. Living in Florida has instilled an appreciation for our beautiful beaches, and I want to keep them as plastic-free as possible. I refuse to create products that will contribute to more plastic in our oceans.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is no place like Florida and our beautiful beaches, which I am so grateful for. If my friend were visiting, I would take them on a boat ride in our beautiful oceans, and then we will also check out the beaches. Lincoln Road Mall is also a must-see because there is so much to see and has great places to eat. Miami is full of diverse cultures, and with that comes delicious, diverse food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have inspired me and supported me along the way. But firstly, I’d like to shout out my husband. He has supported me throughout this journey in more ways than a partner can support you, and there have been times that he has believed in me more than I believe in myself. Taking a leap of faith and throwing yourself into the unknown can be very scary, and he has pushed me to believe enough in myself to do it. I also want to shout out my friends and supporters that have purchased my products for the simple purpose of giving them away so that they can spread my products around. I will never forget you believing in me and supporting me throughout this journey.
