Meet Sabiné & Bryttany | Co-Owners & Black Female Entrepreneurs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabiné & Bryttany and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ladies, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We deserve to be our own bosses. God has truly blessed us with creative minds so why not put them to use. Starting a business is always scary but when you have a passion in life you pursue it. For years as women we were never given a REAL chance at being a boss ESPECIALLY as black women. We always had to fit the mold and conform to what society has defined our role to be. Starting our own business gives us the power to bring our vision to life. It puts the authority back in BLACK FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR and well… here we are. Why let someone else write the story in this chapter of life when you have the tools and creativity to write it yourself.

Let’s talk business. Tell us more about your brand, what can you share with our community?
Black Miami Connected is a platform in Miami where local black people can create, connect, collaborate, and occupy a [safe] space through our five (5) internal values (Social, CO&E, Wellness, Education, and C&L). We aspire to be the go-to brand for local black people looking for all things black and all things local (ex. advice/guidance, friendship, networks, events, and opportunities).
We are excited to build connections within the local black community.
Bryttany: When you think of Black Miami Connected, we want you to think of a big group chat for black folks to come together and network, bond, create friendships, learn and generate knowledge, and continue to support and uplift our people. Literally a safe space, where you feel free to express yourself, to learn, to grow, to be vulnerable, to experience your emotions, to meet up and connect, to cultivate a black experience that can be passed down from generation to generation.
How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Bryttany: The road to success is never easy, there will always be challenges and barriers that come your way. It’s how you handle them that creates your pathway to success. I often refer to the quote “every set back is a setup for a comeback”. In order to grow you have to learn from your mistakes. It’s early in the business, but we’ve definitely encountered some hiccups. I feel we’ve used them as stepping stones of how to improve our business, events, and goals for the future.
Sabiné: I agree with Bryttany. To add to those points, I think we make it look easy sometimes but people never truly get to see the hours we put in behind the scenes to get things done. We literally bust our butts to provide memorable experiences for those who attend our events… but as they say “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” so to give that quality, takes time. Time and effort that we factor in, that sometimes may take us away from our families, our day jobs, and higher education because we care that much about our community. I’ll be the first to say it isn’t easy. Once you hit the ground. running, there is no turning back. We’re committed, even through the bumps in the road, we don’t stop… we adjust and move accordingly. It’s important to just keep going! As a small business, you won’t always get it right but challenges are what help you learn and grow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Woo! This is a loaded question because there are so many hidden gems to check out when you’re in Miami, it all depends on what it is you’d want to experience: – Red Rooster in Overtown has some amazing food and the perfect ambiance for all occasions.
– Events hosted at The Urban are always nice as well..
When people think of Miami, they think of South Beach, but there’s so much more than just this one tourist area. Wynwood is always a vibe, whether you’re there for the culture, music, food, and/or art. It’s genuinely a nice place to just enjoy the roots of Miami. Let’s not forget about Broward County either. Shout out to 954 one time lol. Honestly, in our opinion, they have amazing beaches (i.e. Hollywood Beach or Fort Lauderdale Beach).
Honestly, following and subscribing to Black Miami Connected on social media would keep everyone up to date with all categories of events happening every day, around South Florida.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Bryttany: I’d like to shout to my family, literally my motivation to keep pushing no matter what obstacles are faced. I’d also like to thank not only someone that I can call my business partner but my friend of 15+ years for bringing me along the ride on this journey. Some people in life you’re just meant to cross paths with and conquer it together, I find it in her. Lastly, we wouldn’t be who we are without the BLACK CULTURE. Shout out to us for being beautiful, powerful, educated, strong, extraordinary, trendsetters, and so much more #ForTheCulture
Sabiné: Aw, that was sweet. I am ever so thankful to have Bryttany as my business partner. She is truly what was needed to get this business off the ground. She is a hardworking super mom, filled with a wealth of knowledge and a plethora of resources. She gets things done! Sometimes I don’t know how she manages it all, but she handles it all with class. I’d also like to shout out the family and friends I have that have supported every project endeavor I’ve ever started. Being a creative can be mentally exhausting when you have so many ideas, but my folks have stood behind me through every step. Last but certainly not least, the BMC community! We would literally not exist if it wasn’t for them. We saw a need and an opportunity to build up the local black community, so it’s rewarding to see our plans come to fruition and receive such amazing turn out and feedback. Thank you everyone!
