We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Alfonso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is inevitable if you want to grow or evolve in any way and I consider myself a risk-taker in many pursuits. When it comes to my personal life, I am all about risk and seeing what happens. I am the kind of person that thinks of every single possibility and then makes decisions on a whim. in the past 4 weeks I have taken risks by cutting my own hair, DIY-ing several home remodeling projects, teaching myself new skills, and agreeing to do this interview. But when it comes to my career and my professional evolution, however, I tend to think twice about risk and what it means. Failure is scary and its the most daunting part of taking risks, but in my experience, I find that although it takes me slightly longer to hype myself up and jump, the results are worth it 90% of the time. In the past six months, I have been laid off twice and found myself consumed with uncertainty and doubts. Although each situation was due to reasons out of my control I still felt responsible for what was happening in my life. Before losing my last job, I was already in the process of wanting to start my own business. I had been working as a freelance designer and marketer for a while, but never thought I was good enough to go at it on my own and make a name for myself. I had never been brave enough to take the risk and push trough 100% on my career goals. One day, something inside just switched and I realized I would never reach my goals of having my own business and working for myself if I kept talking myself down and working for other people. Within 24 hrs I had done the work and brought to life the ideas I had been pushing to the side for months. Just like that Propolis Digital was born. For so long I have wanted to create a marketing agency that works with small businesses and helps them do for themselves what I finally built up the nerve to do for me. So many people have dreams of owning their own business but do not have the resources to work with big marketing agencies. In creating Propolis Digital, my goal is to give businesses of any size the same service and attention of a larger marketing agency. I want to help others come to the same conclusion I did. Taking risks is scary, but if you sit at the edge and never jump its impossible to drive your goals from point A to point B. The way I see it, if taking risks is worth it 90% of the time, I’m okay with those odds and I’m here to help others be okay with them too!

What should our readers know about your business?

My business is still very new so the most exciting part is being able to evolve and grow into something great! Nothing about it has been easy but every step I have taken so far has been incredibly exciting. The largest challenge to overcome so far has been my own fear of failure. Creating something for yourself and then sharing it with the rest of the world is a scary thing (especially during current times) and the even the possibility of failure can be paralyzing sometimes. In my experience, the best way to overcome this fear is by taking a deep breath and doing what scares you anyway. Wanting to help others thrive in their own small businesses, knowing there’s a possibility of my business helping someone else realize their dreams is the best reason for me to keep pushing forward.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dear friend Donald Compere was instrumental in helping to push me toward finally making my ideas come true and starting my own business. We met as colleagues working for the same events marketing company and quickly realized we got along both professionally and personally. He has worked very hard to make a name for himself in our industry and pushed me equally hard to do so for myself as well. In the time we have known each other he has always kept my best interest in mind and thought of me when it came to professional opportunities. I not only consider him a friend but a wonderful business partner and colleague.
