We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina “Bree” Zellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina “Bree”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been a fempreneur. It started when I was a child and took it upon myself to sell my Barbie collection for $350. I knew that I wanted to work for myself in some capacity but just wasn’t sure what that would look like yet. So I went the traditional route, you know college to the corporate job. I enjoyed what I did and was the youngest in my field BUT there was no passion there. I found yoga + meditation from the stress of that job and realized that was my happy place. I had experienced that notion before when I was in college and took a pilates class for my extracurricular credit. I told my mom there I think I want to work in health and wellness. She replied ” Get your PR/marketing degree and then we can revisit it” LOL. But here I am now for the last 7 years working right where I wanted to be. I’m glad I had those other experiences because they have really helped shape how I conduct my personal business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am truly a Spirit Entrepreneur. I don’t want to be just defined as a yogi but I put my energy into several different things in the wellness industry and do my best to uplift others along the way, I worked corporately for the top Yoga company in the country for 6+ years. During that time I had the honor of helping over 2000 people become Yoga Teachers + managed an endless amount of workshops/trainings + became a yoga marketing expert. During the pandemic, I saw the wellness industry struggle intensely. It broke my heart to see my favorite yoga studios close, teachers move, and people in despair. I was blessed to not just survive but thrive during that time.
I took my local studio online, helped move teacher trainings online, was featured as the only Yoga teacher for Golds Gym SoCal digital platform, and created a virtual studio. I learned more about content creation and corporate collabs and created wellness content and programs for businesses. I paused for a moment and asked myself now how can I help my community create these opportunities. I decided to create a TRUE business of wellness course. It’s more than the 30 min speech they give you during your certification. Digitalize Your Dharma or better known as the #dharmacourse goes through Branding, Social Media, Collaborations, and creating Member Spaes. Allowing any Wellpreneur to feel confident sharing their spirit offerings in the online space. Rather they want this as their full-time gig or their passion project.
Now that sounds easy and like everything just sort of fell into my lap and it DIDNT. I think what has helped me is my mindset, my ability to invest in myself, and embracing a pivot. I could have waited for studios to reopen or the pandemic to end but I looked at the new normal and said what I can do to help others during this time. Then the opportunities began to flow.
I now work for myself full time running my course, and continuing my collaborations, and happy to say I have had 100% retention with my virtual studio over the last 2 years. Now I have taken a deep dive by working with yoga teachers + wellness professionals 1:1, made the course modular so it aids accessibility, and am in the process of creating a physical yoga + creator space within the year.
I want the world to remember to be kind to yourself as well others. Because you never know who you may be called to help or who may in turn help you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am Texas native and I mean the landlocked area of Texas. So my fave place to take anyone is the BEACH. The fresh air, the grounding of putting your feet in the sand and the ocean breeze is my happy place.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my friends and family. I know that night to be a bit cliche but I am really blessed to have a hug support group around me. Anytime I want to try something they are my biggest cheerleaders. Hey I am going to leave my optical background and move to California and become a yoga teacher…and there like well if anyone has the tenacity to do so its you!
