We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always harbored the aspiration of establishing my own design firm. My upbringing was deeply rooted in the arts, with my mother being the proprietor of a fine art gallery, and my father running a photography studio. Witnessing their relentless commitment, unwavering dedication, and boundless creativity in managing their businesses left a deep impression on me. For 18 years, I honed my skills within the nurturing environment of a boutique design firm. During this time, I refined my craft and developed a profound connection to my own aesthetic and passions. The dedication I pour into my projects and clients has always been wholehearted, and I’ve come to realize that channeling this same level of effort and attention into my own business is a natural progression.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve recently launched my own boutique interior design firm, and what distinguishes me is that my business is entirely referral-based. I am honored to receive referrals from a diverse network that includes builders, vendors, and past clients. The trust and confidence they place in me and my team are deeply appreciated and form the base of our success. My journey has offered numerous lessons, one of which is the importance of confidence and assertiveness, particularly in an industry dominated by male counterparts within the construction team. Learning to navigate this environment and assert my expertise has been a significant part of my growth. Additionally, I’ve acquired the skill of advising clients effectively while gently guiding them toward optimal outcomes for their homes. This often involves discussing the pros and cons of various design elements and materials, facilitating informed decisions, and ultimately arriving at the best possible results collaboratively.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I thoroughly enjoy my time in Miami, engaging in some of my most cherished activities. One of my favorites is setting up camp in a luxurious poolside cabana, and my preferred spots for this are the Four Seasons and the Faena. My days in Miami revolve around exploring the Design District, punctuated by a delightful lunch at the Mandolin Aegean Bistro. I have an addiction for exceptional cocktails and late-night sushi, often indulging at Queen Miami Beach. The city’s vibrant flavor and ceaseless energy are truly unparalleled.
Additionally, I relish the opportunity to hop on the Brightline for a day trip to Palm Beach. There, I immerse myself in the world of vintage boutiques along Dixie Highway, savoring a splendid lunch at The Breakers’ Seafood Bar. My Palm Beach day culminates with martinis at the Chef’s Table of Buccan. These experiences combine luxury, culinary exploration, and relaxation, allowing me to fully embrace the captivating culture of South Florida.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
