We had the good fortune of connecting with Sagette Van Embden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sagette, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and my brand is never giving up. Life throws us all kinds of obstacles, some are harder than others, but the most important, especially as business owners, is being able to keep pushing through. Making sure that you know, that your business is your passion, your baby, and you will do whatever it takes to keep it alive and going.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography can be classified as timeless and classic. I like to provide my clients with photographs that they will still love in 10 years time. When it comes to art and photography, one has to be careful to not select a photographer who provides you with photographs that are current to the style of that year, but rather photos that not only capture a particular moment or memory, but also will be relevant in the future. I got to where I am today professionally by never giving up. It was definitely not an easy road, there are always bumps in the road personally and professionally in everyones life. But the most important part is to not give up. Take our current COVID situation, if we just gave up and watched Netflix all day during quarantine, then we are giving up on our businesses’. The early bird gets the worm, currently, most photographers dont have work because of events being post poned, social distancing, etc. So, instead of sitting and waiting for things to go back to normal/for us to go back to work, work on your brand now, keep it alive, keep your name out there. Focus on things you normally don’t have the time to work on when its high season or you’re too busy with shooting and editing. I want the world to know that our brand is to provide you with photographs that are timeless, images and videos that will let you relive your biggest moments, and your most special memories.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend happens to live in NYC, so if she were coming to visit me in Miami, I would take her to the beach or in a perfect world, rent a boat and go out for the day. Seeing Miami on the water is truly amazing. The weather is spectacular, the lifestyle is fascinating, and the scenery is breath taking.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shout out to my mother, Tammy. She has always been my biggest cheerleader, especially with my career. Not only do we share a passion for photography, but she also owns her own business, and was the one who taught me all I know about photography and being a business owner and recently, taught me how to be a working mom, when I became a mom myself. She has made sure I never give up, has taught me the ropes when it comes to business and marketing, and has always motivated me to keep up with my passion for photography.
I would love to dedicate this shout out to my mother, Tammy and my husband Bryan. My mom has always been my biggest cheerleader, especially with my career. Not only do we share a passion for photography, but she also owns her own business, and was the one who taught me all I know about photography and being a business owner and recently, taught me how to be a working mom, when I became a mom myself. She has made sure I never give up, has taught me the ropes when it comes to business and marketing, and has always motivated me to keep up with my love for photography. My husband Bryan, thank you for always supporting my passion for my business, for wanting to help make it blossom and evolve and for somehow finding a way to apply your knowledge from your mortgage banking business towards my photo business. I Love you both and thank you.
