We had the good fortune of connecting with Salva Alba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salva, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?

Human connection is one of the things that excite me the most. It’s pretty much the reason I make music. There is something about sharing a story and seeing other people relating to it, being inspired by it, and seeing themselves in that story that really brings joy to me.

When I started writing my songs, I made the agreement with myself that I would not judge these songs, because they were not for me, but for someone else out there who needed to hear these words. And being on both sides of that conversation is really magical. Getting moved and inspired by someone’s story is a very powerful thing we get to do as human beings.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

One of the most powerful things I’ve been able to achieve in my life is being able to accept the present moment as it is. Yes to goals, dreams, and visions and manifesting them, but if you are not able to accept what it is the present has for you and understand that somehow it serves a purpose in your story, are you going to be able to manifest that grand future? And are you even going to be happy then?

And note that I say “accept the present moment” not “be happy with the present”, because that is not necessarily possible. If you are in a painful situation, the reality is you are probably not happy, and you don’t have to be. Feelings and emotions are real and it’s ok to feel them. That’s where songs come from and why they impact us so much. But being able to accept the “nice” and the not so “nice” moments in life as temporary and looking forward through it is what has allowed me to keep my dreams and visions in focus in the long term.

So, yeah, understanding this has been a great piece of how I got where I am today and how I’m weaving my reality, creating my dreams alongside other wonderful people.

Creating an amazing event like “Caminantes de La Nueva Tierra” was a vision I’ve had for a while, and had I let the hardships in life stop me from moving forward towards it, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to connect all these talented musicians and people and showcase our talents and prayers in such a beautiful way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

One of the things that drew my attention from Miami was the expanding community here. It’s like all of a sudden, all the people that wanted an alternate way of experiencing life started creating events, offerings, festivals, song circles, etc.

Tribal Galaxy is surely a place I’d take anyone who hasn’t been, it’s an epicenter of well-curated offerings, from medicine music concerts, to workshops and jams, all with the best vibes.

We’d totally go for some vegan treats at Aguacate Sanctuary of Love. We’d go kayaking through some mangroves…and well, since we got a week we could drive up to check out the springs!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

There’s quite a few people that have definitely impacted my path. I’ll start with Jesus Hidalgo, Teresa de Jesus, and Moyenei Valdes. The three of them together because it was during a retreat with them that I was able to identify people already walking a musical path/career that resonated with what I was feeling my music was creating for me.

Then, there’s Zuli who bridged me over to the Miami community and Emilia Garth, whom as a space holder in this community brought me into her amazing platform, Kanikapila Miami, a conscious open mic which was the perfect safe container for me to take my first steps as a singer/songwriter.

There’s so many other people who have been influential on my path and where I am today, that includes Angel Morelli, Pablo Regueiro, Diego Gonzalez, Xtian Lozada, Keysel Pelaez, Sasha Mangarre, Elvira Barcala, Luzz, Nilo del Monte, and so many more. And let’s especially not forget my partner, Barbara, shout out to you too, my love.
