We had the good fortune of connecting with Salvador Compañ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salvador, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Lørdag & Søndag is a design studio based in Mexico City that works closely with master artisans from different regions of the country.

We arrange fair prices for their work, as well as convenient turnaround times by always taking into consideration their traditions and lifestyle.

We also make their cultural patrimony known and valued worldwide by designing pieces that merge contemporary aesthetics with ancient crafting techniques. Every artisan on our roster is acknowledged by name for the work they make.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

We used to produce leather goods when the project started in 2011. Initially, the business did not generate much profits. For over 7 years all of the income had to be reinvested. I believe most people I know would have given up by that point, but we kept pushing forward and gradually switched our focus towards sculpture and decoration.

We have interesting projects coming up: We will be participating in Xtant, a fair in Mallorca specialized in textile design, and we are about to bring about a collaboration with Japanese artist Anri Okada.

We are truly proud of being able to colaborate with national talents. For generations, artisanal work in Mexico has been heavily underestimated. There are still some people who still think of it as nothing more that”trinkets”, which is really disrespectful for the artisans considering all the time invested in creating those pieces and the literal centuries of tradition behind their craft.

At Lørdag & Søndag we are committed to changing that perception by offering high quality designs inspired by ancient and modern mexican culture.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
