Meet Sam Silverberg | Martial Arts Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Silverberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was working for other people my whole life. I never really felt comfortable working for someone else. There were always rules that I didn’t align with. So I tried to absorb as much as I could from the different jobs I had in my industry so I could do it myself. As soon as I had a space available I took the leap and started my own business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I named my business “The Dojo”. It’s a martial arts school. Currently I’m teaching kickboxing but I’m planning on hiring a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and MMA coach. Mindset is what sets me apart from others. I lead my students to focus not just on the physical aspects of training, but the mental aspect. I believe your mentality is probably even more important than the physical training. The reason is because it would be significantly harder to get any sort of progress when your mind is elsewhere. I focus on affirmations and manifestations. I’m extremely proud of the results my students have shared with me. Because of the focus I give on mentality, many have told me how much it affects their life. They become more confident, more positive, more disciplined, and happier. I got to where I am business wise by building relationships with clients and building trust. Without them I’d be nowhere. Honestly it felt easy because of how supportive my clients were. They really want to see me succeed. They believe in me as much as I believe in them. The only hard part was the fear. Quitting my job was scary not knowing if I’d be able to succeed without that failsafe. I’ve learned that consistency is key. If you just keep going towards your goal, it doesn’t matter if you’re working incredibly hard or just going at your own pace, you will see results. The problem comes when people give up. If you over work yourself and quit that’s way worse than taking it easier and continuing. Sustainability is more important than output in my opinion. I want the world to know that I truly love what I’m doing. I will never stop bettering myself. I will keep learning and traveling and experiencing different things and I will bring those back to my students and share it with anyone willing to learn.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m the wrong person to ask this haha. I’m kind of a recluse. Or maybe that’s not the right wording. I enjoy chilling and having interesting conversations. That’s fun for me. So I go to kava bars. Places like Kavana in davie and elixir in Hollywood. Or if I’m feeling adventurous tenth level tavern and glitch bar are places you can get alcohol. As for food Brandon in Hollywood has the best pho I’ve ever had. The grilled beef pho specifically.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out my mom for supporting me in everything I do.
