We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a creative person, and my vision often runs counter to the norm. With Biohacker Expo, I’ve launched something like a comic con for people who want to BE superhuman. I am sick and tired of going to health events that are pushing Big Pharma or pricing out everyone except the wealthy elite. I want regular people to know that they can feel better, and I bring together speakers and innovators that show people how.
I’m fortunate to have spent the early part of my career developing an expertise innovating, marketing, and running large events under the generous mentorship of others. If it weren’t for those mentors, I don’t know that I’d be able to do this.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Biohacking is a funny term. Lots of people ask me if it’s “a computer thing.” It’s not. It’s about breaking free, not breaking in. Biohackers break free from the norms of the Standard American Diet and Conventional Healthcare to sleep better, feel better, and slow aging.
My business, Biohacker Expo Feb 28 – Mar 1, assembles people who have turned pain into purpose. We feel better, and we want to be part of a revolution that democratizes health for all.
I got into biohacking because I had a brain injury caused by exposure to mold, and it took me 6 months to figure out what happened. I started biohacking before I figured out what was wrong with me, and none of it worked until I discovered I had to detox mold from my body and brain. Once I discovered the root cause, I was able to clean out my system and eventually repair the damage done through a series of biohacking techniques.
Biohacking is all about personalization. It’s not about pushing a lifestyle on anyone. Not all biohackers jump into ice baths. People with every body type and from every walk of life will find something they can relate to with BE.
One of the biggest lessons I learned from my first event is that people want help NOW. They don’t want to wait until February. That’s why I formed the Biohacker Enclave with videos and cheat sheets so people can start feeling better today. It’s all on the website at https://biohackerexpo.com.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I could plan a perfect day for myself and a friend, we’d start with the LiquiLift® IV drip at Liquivida in Aventura. Then we’d head over to The Biohack Lab for a little red light, cryo, lymphatic drainage, and ozone therapy. We’d grab a late lunch/early dinner at Pura Vida Miami, take a brief walk along the surf, and find a gong bath to journey the cosmos through sound.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Mike Broder, Founder & CEO of GalaxyCon, has been the most supportive and inspirational person in my life. We ran Florida Supercon together for years before branching out across the country. He taught me everything I know about managing risk and busting through barriers. When I opened the doors of Biohacker Expo, he looked at me and said, “You know I won’t let you fail, right?” He’s the one who convinced William Shatner to get “biohacked” on stage with me, and I always know I can count on him.
