We had the good fortune of connecting with Santiago Betancur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Santiago, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was a kid I was always charmed by light and colors.Magic perceptions of all kind of things and behaviors of light. Then I was fascinated by books but not for reading , just to appreciate the fantasy of illustrations. In the meantime I was always drawing hidden during classes and finally realizing that my talents was around arts.It Was not new on my family. My grandfather was a great artist, sculptor, painter and photographer ; the same fields that currently define all my activities.I have it in my blood, on my genetics and especially in my heart. Is the source of all the best that I can give to humanity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an artist that takes his work seriously and it makes a difference with the trivial and superfluous. My desire is to create deep art , sincere and strong enough to shake the fibers of the soul of the spectator. He needs to see something that overpasses him and I won’t stop.I have to be the first to impress myself and it is my daily challenge.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Downtown Miami where I have my studio and exhibition, so this is the first place to enjoy and then near we have the Frost Science Museum, excellent to learn and have great views of the port and the sea. Then for more Art and Culture activities I would recommend the PAM (Perez Art Museum)Wynwood’s murals and right there the stunning events of Miami Super Car Rooms.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I live thankful with my beloveds and all masters that I’ve found along my life, but my gratitude goes specially to every person that in some way has been opened to be touched by my artworks because it gives sense to my art and freedom of expression.
