We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Shulevitz Vorhand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, how do you think about risk?
I was working as an attorney for the government. In fact, as a young attorney I started out as a Prosecutor in Miami and then switched to the opposite side as a Public Defender in Miami. Both positions were secure jobs with good benefits and a stable salary however, I wanted to be more independent and be able to earn more, it was a huge risk as a young attorney to leave a secure coveted position with good benefits, but I knew I wanted to be my own boss and I wanted the ability to be creative in my field. I started small in an office that was like a closet in downtown Miami. I came with one box with my diplomas and one set of law books. I was young, enthusiastic and full of passion to defend people. I took almost every case that came, many of the cases were extremely challenging and many of the clients were low income. I made payment plans and my services affordable. Eventually the hard work and determination led me to high level clients including celebrities. I am so passionate about my work and cases.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a criminal defense attorney. I represent felonies, misdemeanors etc . Hard work, dedication, and passion about my work and fighting for the accused. There are many sleepless nights, and my job is high pressure, but I would not change it. There is so much adrenaline. I am a naturally competitive person and I try to fight to win for my clients, but most of all being a good listener and empathy are important in successfully defending clients in court and litigation.

I am from an orthodox jewish Hasidic  family from New York. I come from a family of Rabbis. A lot of women at the time were  not encouraged to go for further higher education many married very young and had many kids that was the path that was expected.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Brickell is incredible. I am from Manhattan, so Brickell feels like a mini cleaner and more fun version of Manhattan. I also love Miami Beach. The city of Miami is full of life and magic as it is a magic city. My office is in the center of downtown Miami for close to 2 decades and I never get tired of it. Miami is a vibrant international city, and I am blessed to practice there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sarah Zabel a former Judge has always been a mentor and role model to me her compassion humility brilliance and caring for others shows me what a truly successful attorney is. As a Judge she was always fair, she is such an asset to Miami we are s blessed to have her .
