Meet Sarah Elqa | artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Elqa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, why did you pursue a creative career?
At the end of my studies, I decided to create my clothing brand because I was passionated about fashion, so I became a stylist for about ten years. I have always been an artist at heart but I had never thought of making a career out of it, I have been painting since I was very young, we are a family of artists, my father paints and my maternal great great grandfather is the famous fauvist painter Maurice Devlaminck. I never thought of showing my paintings to other than my family members until four years ago, when I met my husband who himself has been an international artist for many years. He advised me to show my paintings to the world because he loved them and how to connect with the art world, so I turned my passion into a career. Today, I am happy and proud to be able to live from my passion and to pursue this fantastic artistic career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I live in France in Paris . I have been a painter for four years, which has changed my daily life because my husband and I travel a lot around the world to participate in contemporary Art fairs, mainly in the United States and Asia. We also like to travel for pleasure, to rest, to disconnect from the modern world and to meet different people. We are led to travel to meet other artists not only in the world of painting but also in the field of music and cinema. We are immersed in art on a daily basis, our house looks like a contemporary art gallery, we have also set up our studios there. We have been parents for a little, over a year, to a magnificent little baby Enzo who gives me even more inspiration to create new artworks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this interview to my husband Grégoire Devin who has been an international artist for 14 years now. He taught me how to make my artworks known to art collectors all over the world which allowed me to have even more self-confidence and to develop my sense of communication. We actually live in Paris but most of the time we go to the south of France, on the French Riviera which is a region that we really like because of its particular light, its colors, its smells and of course its amazing landscapes .
