We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Zabel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I believe I am a diplomat at heart. My objective in starting my business was to create a statewide full-service dispute resolution practice. After serving as a Circuit Court Judge for nearly 16 years my goal was to resolve conflict outside of the court system. My vision for my practice was to help those confronted with a dispute find a way to peacefully end the dispute. It was important to create a name that specifically associated me with my business. I came up with the acronym MAZE. M is for mediation. A is for arbitration. Z is for Zabel. E is for the end. MAZE Resolutions PA will amicably navigate anyone searching to end their conflict out of the maze.

What should our readers know about your business?
I feel so rewarded after each dispute I resolve. For me the proudest day was when I settled my first family case. After being on the Family Bench and seeing how toxic the court system is to children my goal was to do everything possible to keep families (especially children) out of the court system. I am going on my third year in business. It is wonderful to have accomplished my goal and expanded my practice outside of Dade County. I have brought on another excellent neutral. Former Circuit Court Judge Mari Sampedro-Iglesia. Hopefully, I will expand the practice by bringing on more neutrals. Fortunately Zoom allowed me to resolve conflict so people wouldn’t be stuck in limbo. I have learned so much as a business owner and also learning how to better negotiate settlements. My story is my journey. I have overcome a lot of obstacles but truly believe in helping others. My brand making a positive impact whether I am a public servant or resolving disputes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would go to las Olas in downtown Broward. The shops are eclectic and fashionable. There are all different types of restaurants. Top Golf is a favorite. Also Dave & Busters off of Sterling is fun entertainment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents Saul and Miriam Zabel who taught me to be kind and make a positive difference in this world. My husband Myron for supporting my goals and believing in me. MDFAWL for being my village. Berdy Soto for being an amazing person. Janet Reno a genuine human being who lead with integrety. My children Joshua (who built my website, helped market me and taught me how to navigate social media), Jeremy, Jessica and Jennifer who make me look good. Donna Lowery and Iramis Portero for being my sisters of my soul.
