We had the good fortune of connecting with Festival Nun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Festival Nun, why did you pursue a creative career?
It is something that i have felt from a very young age, the need to be different was something i always inspired to be. I pursed being a DJ because i felt that i could make a positive and fun impact on peoples lives, In life i feel some people have an obligation to share their gifts and talents and with this career i knew i could make that happen.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So about 4 years ago i was taken to Ultra Music Festival for the first time in my life and my life changed. I was introduced to this new world of music and creativity. I feel like what set me apart was the ideas i had for this industry and to refer to what i was stating earlier i have always been different in the sense of i was willing to go against the grain and create my own path. I DJ as Festival Nun which in the world of EDM people love that because it is a boundary less atmosphere, i wear a full nun outfit and my shows are about having fun and something you can hold onto when you leave. Ive learned many lessons along the way and one of the most important i believe is that not everyone will see your dream but thats why its yours and its up to you to chase it. It took a lot of time behind the scenes to get where i am today i spent many nights practicing and listening to so much music that there where people that thought i had disappeared. I want the world to know that you can truly be anyone you want to be it doesn’t have to stop when you say you want to be a firefighter as kid but then grow up and give up on your goals. i never believed in the saying you’ll never work a day in your life if you find something you love but I’ve found it and its hear now so i just hope i can inspire people to be them and have fun the same way others have inspired me. The challenges have been hard I’ve seen people support me to my face but then have a different story to tell behind my back all in all its life lessons that i feel are imperative for us all to learn so we can grow. I want the world to know that the human mind is beautiful and we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. Never give up is what i was taught and when you surround yourself by the right people and have a strong foundation on what you believe you can achieve great success fast forward to this past weekend i played Ultra Music Festival as a DJ so life really can come full circle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow where to start? If you were in town for the weekend with me it would go a little something like this. First thing we would have to do is go catch some sun at Daer Dayclub and kick off your weekend with some good vibes and even better hospitality. After that we would go have dinner at the best restaurant in South Florida Cafe Martorano hosted by Steve and Marsha Martorano. After an amazing Italian dinner we would head over to one of my favorite clubs to dance off those calories. Depending on the person that was in town i would take them to Sway Nightclub in Ft. Lauderdale or Centro in Wynwood. After the night starts to end i would head back to Booze Garden which is one of my favorite bars in south florida. Booze Garden is your home away from home its every persons feel good spot wherever you’re from and whatever you do you always feel at home when you’re at booze garden, its my ace in the hole and no south florida trip is complete without one of there famous shots. There are many exciting people you would meet along this night and one of them would likely be my good friend Dylan Morton who is one of the partners at Sway night club and the best owner in the nightclub industry, The hospitality you would receive here would be unlike any place or city you have ever been.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been many people that have inspired me a different points of my journey in life, i would like to start with my family. My mother and grandparents have been such an inspiration in what i have accomplished in my life for the simple fact that they always allowed me to be myself. No matter where i have been or what i have done they have supported me and i see how rare that is with the people i have met or come across in my lifetime that haven’t had that same support. I also have had a great supporting cast in many of my friends. In particular i have to give some credit to my good friends at morton hospitality group, they opened the window for me into nightlife and gave me a different perspective into the mystery of the things people attend when they aren’t working day to day jobs. I also have gained so much inspiration from the DJs that introduced me into EDM music which i never thought would be a style i would grow to love and do for a living one of my mentors in the Industry DAMAGED GOODS played a huge factor in helping me hit the ground running showing me everything i needed to know about DJing and having the patience to answer any question I’ve had along the way, Many names aren’t mentioned in this but those that have supported me know who they are.
