We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Forchette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk taking has played a huge part in my life leading up to this point. I feel that there aren’t many people willing to take a chance or “risk it” without knowing what the outcome will be.
My life & career has been nothing but risks. Since I was a kid, I’ve always felt that I was not meant to work a 9-5 job. That I was meant to do something more or something different.
When I was 22 or 23 years old I decided to move to Miami by myself, no friends, no family. Not knowing one single person. That was a risk.
My start in music came because I offered to work for free. That was a risk.
To this day, I’m still taking chances on things I am unsure about. But following my gut and my heart has led me to this point. So, I’m going to keep doing that.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started working for an artist I met at a show in Miami helping him with his social media content in 2016-2017. He goes by the name Mike Sb. I worked for free because I had no experience. I was more interested in learning than anything else. I did this for 2 years.
By 2019 We were all in on the music and Mike and I decided to take it more serious. We found a place to rent on the beach so we could really dedicate our time to music. And through working with Mike I was introduced to another artist by the name Tommi Waring. Then the Covid pandemic hit. And I had zero experience, so I had to learn the industry in the middle of a gigantic shift in music. So even though I am not some well-connected manager with all this major label experience. I am a hustler. So, I am proudly willing to be “in the trenches” learning as we grow.
A lot of people may not realize how expensive it is to have a successful artist career. I have always had to have a job to support the music business. And since it gets to be expensive. We couldn’t afford to pay for music videos or content for socials. I wanted to find a way to make my artists look dope and make it seem like we have a whole team around when it was only us. So, I was kind of forced to learn how to pick up a camera and learn the creative side of the business. It was all born out of necessity.
I am now year #7. Still working, Still learning. I have come a long way but still have a long way to go. It’s a grind. But I love it.
Mike & Tommi are amazing at what they do, they’re crushing it and have a bright future ahead of them. And I am blessed enough to be able to play a role in both business and creative. All of the work we are doing inspired me to start my company HOUSEWRK. It’s meant to be a place where we can empower artists, influence creative direction, and build brand partnerships.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to host a friend visiting the area I would make sure they experience the If I had to host a friend visiting the area I would make sure they experience the full Florida lifestyle. Beach, boating, fishing, maybe a round of golf if that’s something they wanted to do. Broward and Dade County has some of the best seafood I have ever had and best food in general. Combine that with the nightlife here. Makes this the best place in the country to host a friend visiting. Hands down.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There has really only been one person in my corner who has supported me and encouraged me to follow my dreams from the very beginning. And that’s my mother.
When I was playing football, she was the person who was at all of my games, she was the person driving me to all of my college visits when we couldn’t afford it.
When I decided to pursue music, she was the one instilling confidence in me when I had none.
So, if there is anyone who deserves recognition in my story it’s my mom. I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
