We had the good fortune of connecting with Shai Angelitá and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shai, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own brand was recognizing my talents and, what I bring to the table. I’ve always been behind everyone else’s corner. From helping style shoots, to becoming a brand ambassador and helping a brand take it to the next level. I gave all of my great marketing tools and, creative ideas to others because I believed in their craft and businesses. However, once I realized I wasn’t appreciated; I took that as motivation to start my own brand. Growing up between middle school and high school it was a passion to get “fly” wearing the newest kicks. Killing the latest trends inspired by fashion icons. As I got older I took jobs in retail which then progressed into becoming a personal stylist for an amazing brand Sandro and Maje. That job gave me the confidence and experience to connect with everyday people who loved fashion just as much as I do. While working there I began to start looking into my own business. I’ve always wanted my own clothing brand. So, all of ideas and talent that I was pouring into others I decided to fill up my own cup.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My brand just made its 2 Year Anniversary as of November 2020. What got me through these two years? One word, CONSISTENCY! The crazy thing about that is, I feel that I can be way more consistent. Ironically, this is the one thing many people have complimented me on regarding my brand. I always hear “I love how your are so consistent.” Honestly, that is the key to having your own business yet alone, clothing brand. Things certainly haven’t been that easy, it was some months that I didn’t make not one sale. But, I kept posting on my social media accounts! Even if that meant deleting and re-posting old content in different ways. When COVID hit and we were in quarantine for months I was sitting on so much inventory I was scared to sell. No one was allowed to go anywhere clubs and restaurants were closed. So I thought of an idea “SÀS SZN TV” I put together a short, fun IG TV video where I styled outfits that woman can both dress up and down. Here I am thinking it wouldn’t be a hit and I actually sold out of every item I dropped! I was so worried about people not wanting to spend money. I still pushed myself I had fun and created something so genuine. It was effortless and I know that’s why the people, the universe received it so well. I believed in myself so everyone else believed in me and, it showed! What I would like the world to know about myself and brand is that I’ve put blood, sweat and, tears into it. My brand was curated from the love of fashion and just wanting every woman to feel as confident as I do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was in town, first we start off by getting some sea food from my favorite spot Mr. Shrimp in Lake Worth, FL. On a Saturday we stopping by one of the newest and lit lounge in Miami, FL Da Cave. Then we going to Wynwood on a Sunday to visit the marketplace. Filled with so many dope vendors to shop. To end off the trip with a Yacht day, get some tans. OH and most definitely going to hit a strip club too! But let’s be honest, I’m such a homebody lmao, I’d rather travel out of state to do all of this. Bestfriend don’t come here let’s go get out passport stamped! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my Mother, my rock. She has always been one of my biggest supporters and motivators. For every photo shoot she’s behind the scenes, every hairstyle she’s done and, she even helps choose the looks sometimes. I’ll never forget the day I was crying, hurt in my room because someone took advantage of me. They used me my connections, my talent and stole my ideas for clout to help their brand take off. My mother looked at me and said “You can have your own Sh*%!” She stayed up with me that night doing research on how to start a brand and, helped me purchase my website domain. She gave me tough love, that fueled me. It reminded me of who I was and, raised to be! And plus she’s the reason why I’m so fly, I mean have you seen my baby pictures? 🙂
