We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakevia and Terrasita and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shakevia and, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor of our success is purpose. We are intentional in everything we do. From the selection of products to the table placement, we work hard to perfect every aspect ensuring every detail is thought-out as if it were our own event. We understand that our passion to meet the purpose behind every event will open doors for more success. Creating Purpose Treats was created on purpose for purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creating Purpose is just that, CREATIVE! We take our customers’ vision and bring it to life in the most unique and creative way. We hang our hats on exceeding our customers’ expectations; nothing brings us more joy than seeing the admiration on our clients’ faces upon pick up or delivery. What sets us apart from most treat businesses, is that most people start a treat business alone. But since there’s two of us we have the ability to feed off of each other ideas, and with four eyes for detail, we create intricate treats that are edible masterpieces. Starting out was not easy, and our biggest hurdle was finances. We fully funded the company ourselves and had little to no finances. But every party was our motivation to never quit. We used every dollar earned to keep advancing the business. Through this journey we have learned that there are seasons of plenty and seasons of drought but in every season we learned to remain consistent and to never stop creating. We want the world to know that following your purpose takes perseverance so you should never give up on your dreams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
South Florida is a city that never sleeps and if we planned a week it would be jammed packed with excitement. We would definitely take a trip to Ft. Lauderdale beach for the food and beautiful ocean view. We’d take a stroll to Wynwood to view art galleries and eat a variety of foods, shout out to Coyo Taco. A girls trip to Dolphin Mall is a must! The restaurants, shopping and movies are things we cannot skip out on. We would also host a girls night overlooking the ocean at Rusty Pelican, dining on exquisite seafood meals is a given. Also, to capture memories we would book a photoshoot at the Floral Escape (Aventura) and a mini cruise around bayside. To end the weekend, on Sunday we would have to attend church, because “ain’t no party like a Holy Ghost party cuz Holy Ghost party don’t stop!” Following church we would have a brunch at Morgan’s and probably plan for them to come again for all the things we missed the opportunity to do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shakinah, of Candy Kisses, was the first person to believe in Creating Purpose and showed her faith in us by gifting us a treat making class, so that we could learn about the treat-making business. From there our families and friends have supported us tremendously. We couldn’t do it alone and all glory goes to God for every inquiry and job booked, we know this business is only possible by His grace.
