We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanni Crayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanni, how do you think about risk?
I believe that legitimate risk taking is as essential to opening a small business as deciding your business name/logo. It’s about having a confident mindset and being cognizant of the true definition of a risk. The chips may not always fall in your favor but in hindsight, you will only be as successful as the amount of risks you’re willing to take to grow your business. Risk taking has played a significant role in my career as a small business owner and as an employee. There has been many occasions where I risked my day job in order to produce a picnic for a client during work hours, I’ve even risked my relationship by overbooking which led to little to no family time, but it was what needed to be done to build the foundation. Now, I’m in a space where I’ve built a team. Risk taking can go hand and hand with problem solving, you will will never know what you’re capable of doing, the best way to do it, anything, until you get out there and just do it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I plan luxury pop-up picnic events which consists of turning a patch of green grass into a dreamy, insta-worthy experience. My setups include low boho-style seating, hand-crafted tables, florals (fresh, dried, or silk), full place-settings and backdrops. My clients can go as big or small as they’d like. I believe what sets me apart is I leave the picnic in the picnic. I find unique pieces that compliment the experience without turning it into a living room set outside. Though starting my business was not easy, I overcame my challenges by taking courses, trial and error, and research. Also, not shying away from other professionals in the business. You can learn so much by networking. I would want to the world to view my brand as a good time. I’m a girl who loves brunch, spending time with family and friends, and the outdoors. My company was built to cater to women like me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm, we’d eat beachside brunch at Dunes Deck in Lantana. It’s my all time favorite breakfast spot. Lunch at Smoothie Me, Please in Riviera Beach, the Turkey Club Sandwich is to die for. We’d make time to check out OVO Sports Bar in West Palm Beach, best wings in town. We’d visit Faith and Flyness Boutique in Northwood and Slayerz in West Palm Beach, for some shopping. We’d have to visit the beach, any beach in the county will do. Last but certainly not least, Riggins Crab Shack in Lantana. Best. Crabs. Ever.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my fiancé, Jermaine. Time is precious and I’m forever grateful for how much of yours you’ve given to helping me build my business.
