We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharde Alderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharde, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was that no matter what how hard or stressful the process and progress may be, Keep going! Do not give up. I’ve had horrible landlords, lost thousands of dollars, suffered from anxiety and panic attacks etc. One thing I always told and still do until this day is to stay motivated, determined and keep the FAITH.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Shades by Shar Nail Lounge is a professional-luxurious nail salon specializing in healthy nail care procedures & the latest nail trends. What sets our salon apart from others is that we look at our job as being literal artist who create art on the smallest canvas, a nail. We pay attention to detail and dedicate our undivided attetion to our clients during their visit to make sure they get what they want. We pride ourselves on quality first not quantity. I literally got to where I’m at today but keeping a lot a faith and not giving up. I tell people all the time having a business is not easy, but if you have 3 things you will always conquer your mission… faith, have faith that you can do it. Motivation, one you get to a point you have to be Motivated keep going. Revamp ideas as new services etc. Then there’s determination, you have to then at this point think to yourself what happens if i keep going… where can and will i be? What is next? I want the world to know that my brand is a black owned business that has licensed nail technicians and who are highly educated in this beauty field. I own to one day expand African American presence in the Nail industry by small chaining our brand. Come relax your nails in our Oasis!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my salon’s clientele that we’ve built over the past 5 years in business. Clients are friends of your business. They are the first supporters, best reviewers, and if they love they services they are paying for, they are likely to be continuous patrons. I would also like to Shoutout my friend and family who also show love and support. I tell a lot of upcoming entrepreneurs that even if when starting out, if family or friends don’t support your business and dream, it’s ok. Do not get overwhelmed, do not hate them, do not get mad or even think they need to/should help you with your dream and goals. It would be nice for their assistance, but it is not their job for your business. A lot of people will just watch until they feel you are at a comfortable level for them to acknowledge you. Meanwhile, love everyone, thank everyone, realize that this is your journey not theirs, and mind your business… literally.
