Meet Sharra Spann | Hair Stylist & Salon Owner of “A Little Off The Top Hair Studio”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharra Spann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have to be honest with you, add opening up a salon to the list of dreams I didn’t even know I had. People ask me all the time “Did you always want your own salon?”. The answer is always “Nottttt Realllly” lol.

I’ve always been aware of the hard work and sacrifice that goes into owning a small business, Specifically a salon. To be on the other side of things when I’m so used to handling the business that’s ONLY behind my chair?

Life works in weird ways doesn’t it?

It’s given me gifts I didn’t know I wanted, it’s thrown me challenges I didn’t think I could face.

Through the grace of God & My support system. I opened the doors to “ A Little Off The Top Hair Studio” in March of 2020, two weeks before the country shut down due to Covid.

My dream was to bring my love for hair and aesthetics to a creative space for independent creatives who value giving their clients an authentic experience.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m a Multi Textural hairstylist & The owner of A Little Off The Top Hair Studio in Pinecrest. I personally specialize in all things HAIR. Straight hair , Curly hair , Wavy hair , I provide services for all textures. As cliche as it may sound Faith is how i got to where i am today. The road was not AT ALL easy, but through the grace of GOD i was able to overcome hardships in HIS timing. Along the way I’ve learned that praying truly changes and reveal things.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So the fact that I’m considered a ‘ Grandma” and i absolutely LOVE my bed, i will try my best with this!! Lol I’m a sucker for a spa day! Ive experienced The Fontaine Bleau Lapis Spa and its the best experience.
You can’t go wrong with Brickell City Center, Wynwood or Midtown ! For my birthday this year THIS grandma DID get out of the house and i tried a new spot that I’ve heard people RAVE about “ The Urban Miami” and i had such a great time!! It’s an outside venue with great music, company and food. There’s also Red Rooster a block over who has AMAZING drinks!
And then you can’t go wrong visiting the beach!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Wow, so there’s most definitely an entire squad in which i would call my support system who’ve paved the way & helped me with where I am today in my Career, and also who played a huge role in me opening up my own salon space. Jesus is the foundation and center of it ALL. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where i am if it wasn’t for him. My family is my ENTIRE world and without their continuous encouragement and support I wouldn’t be able to management all of the roles i do. They’ve set the foundation of my success from DAY 1. Then there’s my mentor Jamila who opened my eyes to so much more than just what I was doing back in 2017. Jamila owns a Curly Hair salon up in Davie by the name of Maggie Rose and there is where I worked for a year and a half expanding my craft and learning all about curly/textured hair, there is where i fell in love with my career all over again! I’m forever grateful for Jamila helping me take my career to the next level, in which some time later would result in me becoming a “Curl Specialist”.

Then there’s my partner Mike & his family who believed in me enough to invest in my business and help to open my very own salon now named “A Little Off The Top Hair Studio”. I’m so grateful to have a space that i can call my own , and to be able to host such amazing creatives.

Lastly my PRAYING Grandfather. My grandad passed away May of 2021, but let me tell you how blessed i am that i have his hard work ALL around me. From painting the bathrooms in the salon, a few high walls (that scared me to death but he wouldn’t take “no” for an answer) to sanding and staining stations, whenever i walk into the salon it’s literally like a HUGE hug from him and I’m just so overwhelming blessed and grateful to be left with those marks.

Now I’m emotional, THANKS GUYS!!! Lol
