We had the good fortune of connecting with Shatawn Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shatawn, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
There is one principle that I have adapted into my life in order for me to step out of my comfort zone. That principle is, “In order to be someone you have never been before, you have to do something you never did before.” I have lived my life as a shy individual that enjoyed being in the background. However, what I had to understand is that God had other plans. He has put me in different situations that required me to step out of that comfort zone and, I can honestly say, it has made me a better person. It has made me stronger, wise, and has given me more confidence. And it is all because I did something that I could never have seen myself doing. Stepping out on faith and believing in yourself even when no one else believes in you. So anytime I sense fear coming, I remember that principle and it reminds me that I have to be bold.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of my best friends was coming to Miami, I would take them to a few of my favorite places to eat like Rendezvous Bar & Grill. Maybe take the drive to West Palm Beach for the day to check out Voodoo Bayou, a Louisiana style restaurant. We would check out some brunch spots such as Keke’s Breakfast Cafe in Boca Raton and Untoasted in Hallandale Beach. I am not a person who goes clubbing but I do enjoy good music. I will take them to the NYSW Jazz Lounge in Ft. Lauderdale.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this interview to three women in my life that have been encouraging, uplifting, and inspiring in this point of my life. They are my friends, my sisters, my village, and a big part of my community. Their names are Alice Beverly, Guerdy Jean-Gaines, and Valencia Taylor. Thank you ladies for being there for me when I need you and motivating me to be great.
