We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaunette Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaunette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been business-minded and wanted to start a business and have made attempts. However when I decided to start this business, I started it out of the need to earn extra income. I had a 9 to 5 doing the things I now provide as services. But the more I worked at making my business visible and researched I realized this can definitely be more than a side hustle and I can create a great business from it and create the life I desire for myself and my daughter.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Shaunette’s Virtual Assistance was founded and started March 2020, right after covid-19 had gotten to Jamaica. I provide business owners and or individuals with services to support them in their administrative duties, business processes, marketing and team support virtually (online), both locally and internationally. This helps them to focus on their genius in order to continue building their businesses, their legacy. I’m proud of the fact despite my many challenges I’ve still kept my vision in tact, readjusted but still learning to build and grow my business. It has not been easy, but why I’m still here is that I’ve accepted that the journey won’t be easy, but I’m willing to learn and readjust as needed as I go. Overcoming challenges in business and your personal life is never an easy pill to swallow, but what I’ve held myself accountable to is when I have challenges I connect with persons within my network in order to not be stuck in my challenges and I pray constantly. My lessons are many, but first I’ve learned that, not one size fits all, it’s okay to be different and you must be your authentic self.
I want the world to know that Shaunette Myers is a little lady but a powerhouse and will be a force to be reckoned with. For my brand, what needs to be known is that when we work together, It’s more than just being transactional. I’m partnering with you, I want their businesses to win and I also want them to win. I’m building a business that will be apart of my legacy and so are they. We’re building legacies.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m such a homebody. But in Mandeville I would take them to Ultimate Dining, Nightclub and Lounge and Voila by Lilee. We could also visit my mother’s grocery and bar in South Manchester because chances are someone is there drinking some alcohol and telling a story. And then not too far from Manchester, we could visit Treasure Beach in St. Elizabeth and go by Jakes Hotel.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of my main sources of encouragement to keep going is my daughter. But my friends, my daughter’s grandparents, and as of recently the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs founded by the US Embassy, have played and are playing a big part in my story. And I won’t forget the people I’ve connected with doing the same or similar businesses, the social media friends and the people who have entrusted me to provide them with my services.
