We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn William and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The initial intent behind purchasing a camera was to produce content for a music artist I was promoting at the time — but things didn’t pan out as intending. Starting a film production company was never part of the plan but after months of collecting dust, I decided to pick it back up. I began recording lifestyle recaps and vlogs and once I got the hang of it, I tried something new and shot my first music video. It was a lot of fun but since it was my first music video — it didn’t come out so good lol but I fell in love with the process. It didn’t take much longer after that where I started to go all in, investing more time and money into my passion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is that I’m people-oriented. I not only value success for my projects but also for the people I work with. Quality is my priority regardless of budget. Even when I get hired to be part of other productions and other directors projects, I do all I can to help out where I can.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come, how much I’ve learned and the projects I’ve had the privilege of working on. I’m most excited to see how much further I go in my career.

I got to where I’m at today by putting in the hours, studying online courses, watching a lot of YouTube, reading, focusing on improving my craft and networking. I can’t say it was easy because of all the hard work I’ve put in — long days and nights, practicing. It doesn’t feel like work though, I love what I do!

Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are to be patient and focus on perfecting the craft. Some people may think rushing to work with the biggest artists and companies is the way to go but I believe what’s most important is to take my time and allow myself to grow and learn as much as I can so that when the time comes to work on larger productions, I am ready. I strive to be recognized for my expertise and professionalism and I want all Top Floor Films clients to feel good about their experience.

Great projects I’ve been apart of and I’m most excited about seeing how much bigger my career can be when I learn so much more.

I wouldn’t say it was easy because of all the hard work and long days and nights of studying and practicing but it doesn’t feel like work when you’re doing something you love so it becomes easy.

The views from the top floor is a different from the views on the first floor — we do Top Floor Films. lol I love to provide clients with a quality video that makes them feel good and fully represents their brand/company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely have to hit up Wynwood! Grab some lunch at Love Life Cafe then go to the beach and jet ski and for dinner, Minty Z. At some point, go to a heat game and/or concert.

I love good food so our week would likely be filled with some of South Florida’s plant=based gems including, Vegan Delights, Vegetarian Delight, Tree lion, SoBe Vegan, and Chocolate Chip Bakery.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout a few people, Director Joe Yung Spike and Roger Alexander from Atlanta, GA for so much education they taught me with music videos. And also my parents for always encouraging me to do what I believe in and to always keep pushing to be better.
