We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheina Bawa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheina, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is one by Eleanor Roosevelt : “ the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. I saw this quote when I was in middle school and never forgot it. Sometimes all it takes is one person to believe in you, that person can be you.
Quite honestly I never thought I would get to where I am today and it only further motivates me to believe in my abilities to achieve everything I dream about and desire. I believe nothing is impossible and if you desire it , it is attainable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a general surgeon who is now completing additional training in cosmetic surgery so that I can focus solely on cosmetic surgery. Up until this point it has taken me 14 years to finish school and training to become a surgeon. The amount of discipline and patience it has required me to have is something I am very proud of. Needless to say, the road to becoming a surgeon has not been easy. Moreover, the road to being a surgeon has been a very male dominated path. Being a woman in this field is another achievement I am also proud of. Fostering my femininity when surrounded by masculinity for over a decade was challenging but has given great pride in knowing that despite the challenges and hardships I was able to remain true to myself and bring softness into a field where it is easily forgotten. Despite a grueling schedule I made sure to take time for myself; to reflect, exercise, and meditate- even if all I had was 30 minutes in a day. I am now working on creating a brand that will supplement what I do as a cosmetic surgeon. I am working to create medical grade skincare and makeup so that your products do the work for you so that you can have more time for yourself and for creating a life you love. My brand is focused around efficiency, elegance, and femininity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am so fortunate to live in, in my opinion, one of the greatest cities in the world. I love that you can find any vibe you are feeling at any time of day in Miami. A few of my most favorite spots include bal harbour for when I’m in the mood for leisure and extravagance. The restaurants and shopping are my favorite. When I’m in the mood for more relaxed fun with friends I enjoy visiting restaurants and lounges in Wynwood. One of the best things about Miami is you can find almost any type of fitness class you desire. I enjoy attending challenging pilates classes especially since I used to teach pilates while I was a surgery resident! My favorite restaurant for ambiance is Sexy Fish in Brickell, and my favorite food is Osteria on Biscayne in north Miami.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve met so many wonderful people along my journey and continue to meet incredible people. I wanted to shoutout my little brother Shandler who has been my inspiration to continue my journey, my residency program director Dr Harold Yang who believed in me when I doubted myself and pushed me to pursue my passion, and Jojo whose presence in my life reminds me that the best is yet to come and life is so beautiful .
