Meet Sheli Muñiz | News anchor, reporter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheli Muñiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheli, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born outside of Atlanta and raised in South Florida. My story begins with my parents who fell in love in Puerto Rico before moving to the states for opportunities. They are the fabric that weaves together who I am, my purpose, and my career.
Growing up, television news was a constant in our house. My parents loved watching noticias so as a child, I even vividly remember pretending to do the weather using Al Roker’s 7-day forecast. Spanish was my first language so the fact that I now tell stories in English, on television, is really a testament to what’s possible. That’s what was drilled into me, “you can do anything”. As a parent now, I carry that lesson forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I get to tell stories on television and digital media. You know what’s wild, how much the industry has transformed. In the last two years, we’ve seen more change than in the last decade. We are turning to our devices more and more, podcasts have begun and even evolved into long-form video shows now. We consume more news than ever before but more fragmented than ever.
What sets us apart, however, is our duty to cut through the noise. With endless content and constant rumors, credibility is everything. We bring clarity.
My career started at the University of Florida where we would edit, anchor, and produce our own shows. From there, I moved from one market to another before landing back in south Florida. Over the years, I have covered countless difficult stories.
One of the challenges of this job is learning how to tell powerful, emotional stories without carrying the weight of them home. You have to guard your heart and mind. For your own mental health, you can’t internalize it. And yet… some stories stay with you. The horrific ones, the heartbreaking ones, I still think about them.
But I’m reminded every day that with this platform comes with immense responsibility. While my emotions can’t lead, my compassion always will.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m so grateful for my village. From long-time friends and supportive co-workers to loving family and the childcare angels who care so patiently for our kids in school!
But today, I want to dedicate this Shout-Out to the people I interview every day as part of my job. I report on incredibly tough stories and the resilience of these families to share their vulnerability is inspiring.
As part of my health show, #Your Health, I’ve met surgeons who are saving lives, doctors who are changing them. Patients who detail their darkest days and health journeys. They remind all of us of the strength of our spirit and why telling their stories matter.
