We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherron Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherron, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began yfsty to encourage people to invest in the most important thing- yourself. Yfsty wellness or Your future self thanks you wellness, began while I was at my lowest point physically, emotionally, and mentally. I was overwhelmed with the remaining years of my college degree, working two jobs full-time and struggling to slow down. After a long season of burnout, I learned the secret to becoming a better me, investing in my self-care. Things like getting excited to cook a healthy meal at home because I get to light my favorite candle after, or waking up early to make my favorite coffee at home in my new glass. All these “small wins” create a huge impact on the way you feel and think. I believe your greatest gift in life is sharing experiences with the world and those you love. I created yfsty wellness with the goal of sharing my small habit of daily self-care for those to have their own experience of self-discovery and self-love one burn at a time.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own yfsty wellness, a self-care brand that consciously creates and sources tools for your self-care journey. Candles have always been a pillar in my self-care journey, but I’m super asthmatic so I was limited to buying high-quality candles with a hefty price and little to no fragrance or cheaper candles that hurt my head, which made it hard for me to breathe. Since candles are our main product, my goal was to create a strong, clean burning experience. We use 100% natural coconut apricot wax, custom blended vegan fragrance, and certified organic crackling wood (so it sounds like a fireplace!)
Having a major in science, being in the lab testing over and over was within my nature. The process was daunting at times but rewarding knowing I was making sustainable self-care more accessible. I want the world to know you are the greatest thing you’ll ever invest in, fall in love with the process of loving yourself, your future self thanks you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since most of my friends are like me, I would plan the trip mostly around yummy food and ambiance in South Florida. We’d start with some morning movement at Evolution Yoga, then a quick coffee run at THE SEED in Boca Raton. Obviously, the beach is a MUST they usually have the best seafood plus I’m a sucker for sunsets so it’s a perfect place to listen to music, catch up and relax. After we wash up, I would take them to my favorite restaurant, Flemings in Brickell for red wine and the best steak ever. As a Trinidadian- American, I love Soca music and the Caribbean culture, so the night would most likely end at one of my favorite soca parties because I love sharing my beautiful culture with the ones I love the most. Hopefully, we wake up in time to hit a local farmer’s market to support the local vendors before they leave.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Atomic Habits by James Clear — changed my life by helping me realize that beautiful things are created with conscious micro shifts. The Mountain is you by Brianna Wiest — encouraged me to step out of my own way, unlearn things that were hindering me and tap into my potential. Thank you to my loving boyfriend, and my brother, Nikolai for always believing in me and my vision, pushing me past my limits, and celebrating every milestone like it was their own. Thank you to my Mommy + Aunt Natasha for listening to me cry and telling me you were proud of me for quitting my job and proud I chose to follow my dreams instead. To all of my dear family, friends, and mentors who have loved me so hard and unconditionally, this would be nothing without you.
