Meet Sherron Permashwar

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherron Permashwar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherron, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
Yes, I am a CPA/PFS and the modern, savvy CPA. I apply the same financial rigor to my personal finances that I recommend for my clients. In my view, a budget isn’t just a spreadsheet—it’s a strategic plan for reaching both short-term and long-term goals. That’s why I call it a “spending plan,” not a budget (since “budget” can sound restrictive or negative to many people).
One of the key elements in my approach is understanding my money mindset. When I started doing this 21 years ago, my first step was to track my spending so I could see exactly where my money was going. I discovered plenty of spending that happened without much thought—mindless purchases that didn’t necessarily reflect my priorities. Once I had that data, I could review it and decide how I actually wanted to use my money.
This process allowed me to develop a sense of intentionality about my finances. Rather than feeling guilty or unsure about where my dollars were going, I made conscious choices about each expense category. If I didn’t like where I was allocating my money, I could adjust that spending and direct those funds toward more meaningful goals—like growing my emergency fund, investing for retirement, or enjoying experiences that align with my values.
In essence, a spending plan is about focusing on what truly matters and being in control of how you use your resources. By first understanding my mindset and habits, I was able to transform my relationship with money. This mindset shift—from “mindless spending” to “purposeful allocation”—helps me and my clients stay on track, reduce financial stress, and ultimately build a more secure and fulfilling future.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a CPA/PFS with a passion for helping people take control of their finances. I work with clients to understand their money mindset and develop a financial plan that reflects their values and aspirations. My approach is rooted in empathy and a desire to be a partner in my clients’ overall financial wellness. Building my business wasn’t easy, but I learned from my mistakes and adapted to changing regulations and technology. Each challenge pushed me to refine my services and strengthen my client relationships. My key lessons are that true connection leads to better outcomes, and protecting my energy makes me a stronger advisor.
My financial education began at my father’s kitchen table, where I mastered the art of balancing his checkbook before I could reach the kitchen counter. That early start, combined with three decades as a CPA, evolved into something bigger: a calling to revolutionize how Americans think about and handle their money.
The Modern Savvy CPA wasn’t born in a boardroom – it emerged from countless moments of watching people’s eyes light up during my workshops and speaking engagements when they realized they could do more than just survive – they could thrive. Through dynamic presentations, interactive workshops, and transformative speaking events, I’m changing the money conversation one audience at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother and father are the foundation of my life’s successes. From my father—who tragically lost his life in a car accident caused by a drunk driver when I was 23—I learned that it’s possible to be both kind and contributing to society, yet still set healthy boundaries so others don’t exploit your generosity. He also taught me the value of living modestly and making meaningful memories, because the future is never guaranteed.
As for my mother, she’s the wind beneath my wings—the one who has always been there to support me, no matter how high I’ve dared to fly. Her steadfast encouragement and unwavering love continue to guide me through every ambition and aspiration I pursue.
