We had the good fortune of connecting with Shevvy Malibu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
English-Brown winery is just one of our family owned businesses. About 7 years ago. at our 1st family owned business Gigi’s Music Cafe we decided to partner with a small micro-winery in central Florida to create our own wines for the restaurant. It was a great partnership, however about 4 years into it, the couple decided to retire. My mom tasked me with finding another company to partner with that would be able to continue our line…but I couldn’t. And then a feeks after that, it was my birthday and my mom was taking us to see Nas & mary Blige in concert (yeah she’s really that dope) and I’m telling her how I am not having any luck finding the right fit, and she says oh don’t worry about it, I bought the company. And I’m like what! Why would you do that, we don’t know how to make the wine, who’s gonna make the wine, and she said you’re gonna make the wine. And I listen to my mama so yeah, I learned how to make the wine LOL
Now I love making the wine but just as important is the vibe, the environment and the connection English-Brown has allowed me to foster. EB has allowed me to experience the profound connection that wine and good friends. I’ve discovered the joy of creating a unique and satisfying ambiance. I’m proud of that.
Starting a business at anytime is challenging, but during the pandemic was HARD, but in under three years we’ve come so far.
I’m proud to say English-Brown Winery has just won Best Winery for Miami New Time’s Reader’s choice and been nominated for a BEST IN FLORIDA award from the Guide to Florida. More and more people are starting to notice us and I’m sure it’s only up from here!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Maybe it’s because I’m a transplant, but I do not take for granted living where other people vacation. South Florida simply has too much to offer to ever be bored! I’m always ready to be OUTSIDE!
I’ve become partial to laid back outdoor venues so places like The Wharf (Fort Lauderdale) Carousel, Nomi Village and The Urban are always wins for a good party vibe.
If I wanna eat my current faves are Juvia, Lasso Gaucho, Matchbox Las Olas, and of course Gigi’s MusicCafe. The Circle House for coffee and pastries and Lolita’s Dessert Club for treats.
I recently went to the Paradox museum and I was like a big kid, I had a great time!
For an active outing, I’m obsessed with dragonboat rowing or a sweaty yoga sesh on the beach with a great view! There is always something to do here! You just have to look for it. 🙂 🤙🏼😎🌴☀️🏖⛱️
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom!!! English-Brown is my mother’s baby, she gave it to me to raise. That woman is a FOUNTAIN of ideas, inspiration and motivation.
