We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Allen-Thicklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sierra, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One thing about my industry that others are unaware of is how fruitful it really is. When I say fruitful I’m expressing the amount of different personalities we meet. I’ve been privileged to work with and service people from all walks of life who has opened up my mind to different philosophies.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Coloring natural curly hair is something I’m most excited about bringing to my area. It’s where my heart rests. Not many hair colorist offer this service here in South Florida. Not because they don’t want to, but because they don’t have the proper knowledge. Getting to where I’m at now was not an easy task. I’ve always known I wanted to be a stylist in a high-end salon. It didn’t matter what type of hair I did, as long as it was there. On this journey I was met with so many challenges, the biggest challenge was losing my brother. Another major challenge was me being so naive. Coming from a small town not aware of what was out there to greet me, I will say I was not quite equipped with knowledge on how to handle certain situations such as micro aggressions, jealousy and bias’s. I caught myself trying to always prove I’m worthy to be in spaces I wasn’t welcomed. Although I was met with defeat a couple of times, I’ve learned that I should be in competition with no one but myself and that focusing on proving points will only hinder me from success. My energy has been greatly shifted to seeking and retaining peace. While growing my brand I want to be received as a knowledgeable respected hair colorist that focuses mainly on providing my guest with an experience of luxury from the time they walk in the door of my salon to the time they leave.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Palm Beach County has so many hidden gems! From the clear waters of Jupiter inlet to the grand mall of Boca there’s no time to just sit around. I’d definitely take my friend to a small coffee boutique called “Blue Mountain Coffee House” which is located downtown West-Palm! We’d absolutely have to get a good session in at the smash house which is always a nice stress reliever, who don’t like breaking things? For drinks and good food I would have to say El – Camino in East Delray where you will be met with multiple bars!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people that has helped me get to where I’m at! I’ll start with my late brother Vontavious. The meekness and humbleness this man had was phenomenal. In his 29 years of life becoming an active father of 3 and a captain of the sea was something I knew was of his wildest dreams. With every obstacle that was presented to him, his dedication, faithfulness and courage never wavered. Next to him is my immediate family. My husband for exposing me to what real support looks and feels like, my daughter for her patience and showering me with pure love. My mommy and sister for being just who they are. Maria Arias, my first color mentor who has helped mold me into the colorist i am today! My true few friends, who has continuously showed up, Thankyou! Certainly not least, God. Thankyou for reminding me that I’m fearfully, skillfully and wonderfully made.
