We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvana Deziderio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Silvana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We wanted to give a genuine piece of us to those who would appreciate it. We work hard and longed for a way to show our creativity and passion of doing everything with love. The pandemic was a difficult period in our lives but was also the moment that gave us the time to reflect on what we wished to achieve for ourselves and as a family.
What should our readers know about your business?
Those Doces is a Brazilian family business, created purely out of wanting to spread some good into the world, the sweetest way possible. We make gourmet brigadeiros. Brigadeiros are a Brazilian treat made with chocolate and condensed milk. Here in the U.S., we say Brazilian chocolate truffles to try to make easier for people of all cultures familiarize with it. We do everything with the most love and care, providing high quality ingredients and production, handmade one by one with immense effort to reach anything close to perfection. We love spending our weekends at local markets, getting to know our friends who support us and enjoy what we craft specially for them. We almost can’t contain our happiness when we receive a birthday or wedding request, knowing we are becoming a part of such cheerful moments. Although it is difficult at times to introduce our culture to other cultures, or have people understand what we are offering to them we tackle challenges as a team, always staying positive. It is worth it all when we see how much joy we bring to others, especially after seeing the smile on their faces after taking a bite of our brigadeiros, the look of surprise and disbelief in how good they are is priceless! In Brazil, Brigadeiros are found in every event, they are part of the celebration and our goal is to spread that celebration anywhere we can reach!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Funny enough, my husband’s sister, Renata, just visited us here in Miami for 2 weeks from Brazil! We decided to take a night out and celebrate her visit at Cantina La Veinte, a refined Mexican restaurant located in Brickell. We enjoyed amazing margaritas and listened to mariachis on a beautiful outdoor patio facing the bay! We took a trip to key west, where we took many pictures for memories and tried Florida’s signature dessert, the key lime pie! Knowing her love for butterflies, we also took her to the butterfly world in coconut creek. We saw new born butterflies hatch from their cocoons, and then entered the garden where they fly free and where we were able to walk around and gaze at their beauty. It was an amazing time and we were all so delighted to see so many butterflies land on Renata! We had a great time exploring Calle Ocho, where we spent the evening dining at Ball & Chain. We loved having breakfast at Madruga Bakery in Coral Gables, we also had the best coffee in Miami at White Rose Coffee Shop, which is also a beautiful art gallery and tattoo shop. Cruising around Miami beach and Wynwood was the last few places we took Renata to see. Our time spent with Renata went by too fast, we enjoyed every second and we hope to see her again very soon!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give lots of credit to my husband, Eduardo. We have been partners in life for 26 years and now partners in business too. Those Doces was an amazing way for us to work together while expressing ourselves individually. We never stop learning about each other and we continuously grow together from it. My kids play an important role in everything we do, it’s all about and for them. Those Doces is a part of us, the 7th member in our family, just like our kids, we want to see it grow and flourish.
