We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvio Padilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Silvio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My background is in psychology. I studied at the University of Florida and have spent years working in non-profits and mental health programs, always drawn to the deeper connections we form with others. But photography became an unexpected yet powerful extension of that work. It wasn’t just about creating images, it was about helping people see in themselves what I saw, their strength, their story, their impact. That passion then grew into something bigger, a way to serve others, whether by capturing the love within a family, elevating someone’s personal brand, or helping creatives and business owners share their gifts with the world. Photography gave me the freedom to create without limitations, to build a business rooted in storytelling, and most importantly, to help others shine.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Photography, for me, has never been just about capturing what’s in front of me, it’s about revealing what’s beneath the surface. It’s about the intimate moments, the raw emotions, the spaces that tell a deeper story. My work is driven by stories, whether I’m photographing a family, a brand, or a creative professional, my goal is always to create something that feels deeply personal.
What sets me apart is my approach? I’d say I don’t just document, I create an experience. I want my clients to see themselves in a way they haven’t before, not just in how they look, but in how they feel. That means paying attention to the slightest differences, guiding without forcing, and creating space for real connection to show up naturally.
I didn’t get here overnight. Like anything worth pursuing, this journey has had its share of challenges. I started in psychology, working in nonprofits and mental health programs, so I’ve always been drawn to people. Their stories, their emotions, the complexities that make them who they are. Photography became an extension of that, it became a creative way to work with people, not just observe them. But turning a passion into a profession takes more than just talent. It takes learning how to market yourself, how to price your worth, how to push past self-doubt and show up, even when it feels uncomfortable.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about doing it like everyone else. It’s about leaning into what makes your work unique, trusting your instincts, and not being afraid to be yourself. I’ve also learned that community matters. Having a support system of creatives and mentors has been important in helping me grow, refine my vision, and navigate the business side of photography.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I create with intention. Whether I’m capturing love, creativity, or personal transformation, I want every image to hold weight, to make you feel something real. My work is about storytelling, connection, and photographing moments that aren’t just seen, but truly felt.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, my goal wouldn’t just be to show them around, I’d want us to experience something new together. Miami is the kind of place where you can always discover something new, whether it’s a new restaurant, a pop-up event, or an unexpected local spot. My birthday is coming up on March 24th, and one of my best friends is visiting for the weekend. We’ve already got tickets to see a comedy show at the Hard Rock, and then we’re heading to the Miami Open to watch some tennis, which neither of us have watched live. For something with a bit more mystery, I’d take them to a Don’t Tell Comedy show, where you book the ticket without knowing the venue or the comedians until the day of. There’s something exciting about the surprise of it all.

Food is a huge part of any trip, and while I’d want to take them to some of my tried-and-true spots, I’d also be on the lookout for places neither of us have been to before. Still, being Nicaraguan, I’d take them to El Madroño for some authentic carne asada, followed by a stop at Raspados Loly’s for dessert. But beyond that, I’d want us to discover something new, maybe a hidden spot that’s been on my list or a restaurant with a totally unique concept.
Of course, we’d also go the beach. We’d wake up early for a quieter, more scenic spot or a beachside restaurant with a view. I’d also check out what new exhibits or installations are happening. Miami always has rotating immersive art experiences or unique pop-ups, so that would be a must. Either way, the goal would be to experience something new together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are the sum of the people we surround ourselves with, both physically and virtually. We are shaped by what we consume, the conversations we have, the art that moves us, the experiences that challenge us. To name just one person or influence would be to overlook the many that have left a mark on me.
That said, I am incredibly thankful for Laurken Kendall (@LaurkenKendall) and the Mother Photographer community (@TheMotherPhotographer). The guidance, support, and honesty I’ve found there have been invaluable, not just in refining my craft, but in defining what success looks like for me. It’s a space that encourages individuality, pushes for growth, and provides a sounding board of photographers who get it. I’ve learned more about my style, my goals, and the kind of work that truly fulfills me because of that community.
Beyond that, I wouldn’t be who I am today without the love, support, and encouragement of my wife, my friends, and my family. Their belief in me has been unwavering. And then there’s my clients, the people who trust me to tell their stories, to see them the way they want to be seen. That trust means everything.
I didn’t get here alone, and I wouldn’t want to. This journey has been shaped by so many, and for that, I’m endlessly grateful.
