We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, what do you attribute your success to?
Leaning into people who lean into me.

When I started, I did so without a blue print to follow. 876 VOLUNTEER thinks outside of the conventional approach to charity, and I knew some folks would not be convinced that it would work.
So I promised myself to always invest the majority of time and resources into those who believed in what 876 VOLUNTEER stood for, and in those who were equally excited to make volunteering go viral.

This has helped me to stay focused on the mission whenever I feel we aren’t receiving the support we need. The truth is, support is there. I simply need to re-align with the people who are whole heartedly on board.
Doing this has allowed us to continually regain momentum in our purpose.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
876 VOLUNTEER is a non profit committed to increasing philanthropic activities on the island of Jamaica. We use social media to increase interest in registered charities and we match donors and volunteers who wish to give back.

Our mottos are:
Connecting Good Hearts to Good Causes
Making Volunteering Go Viral

We are Jamaica’s first and only volunteer promoter, in that we use social media marketing strategies typically reserved for commercial business to increase the visibility of charitable agencies. We believe in the value of remaining relevant in order to root giving back as a main characteristic in the next generations.

This isn’t easy- and actually, that’s the hard part. Ideally it shouldn’t be that difficult to HELP people. And on the days where it feels you have to fight to love your country it can be heart breaking.
But like any true love story, it never ends. All it takes is for one small act of kindness. One person reaching out for help and being connected to the right donor and volunteer and it makes it all worth it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this to my Social Media Ambassador team.

In their own lives their love for Jamaica shines through in all they do, and they bring that to this movement. Their clean hearts and continuous commitment is second to none, and 876 VOLUNTEER would not have the reach and impact it has without them.

There are times in life when I know I must walk alone, but this is not one of them.
I am beyond grateful to have them by my side.
