We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Deacon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, why did you pursue a creative career?
Even from a young age, I was engulfed in Cinema. My parents bought me the one thing that would ignite my passion for filmmaking….a DVD player! The beautiful thing about DVDs was that while you still had the movie, some extra perks like the behind-the-scenes option. I found myself mesmerized by the process of how a film was made, specifically the behind-the-scenes of Jim Carrey’s The Grinch. Watching Ron Howard yell action, and this whole world unfolded! It was magic!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a film buff from Miami, Florida, who loves to mix psychology and social commentary in my films. Adding social commentary to my films is my way of giving my take on certain topics in a creative way. My latest short film, “Metamorphosis,” is a commentary on pretty privilege and Western beauty standards which I’m currently working on.

Before I got into the film world, I had no idea what I wanted to do. But then, I joined the Seminole Theatre’s Production of Lion King Jr, where I met the amazing Magaly Perez, and it all clicked – directing was my passion. Breaking into the film industry was no cakewalk, but I learned that connections are everything. Finding my voice was also crucial, and it helped me take risks and learn from my experiences.

At ForThemStudios, we’re dedicated to creating stories that are thought-provoking and one-of-a-kind. We believe that storytelling has the power to inspire change and bring a deeper understanding of the world around us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To start, I would suggest taking them to Bangkok Thai Sushi for brunch. We could order The I Love Lucy and Green Dragon Roll – they’re both delicious! After that, we could head to the Wynwood Walls to admire the art. Finally, we could end the night with a fun-filled evening at Bayside Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
What a question! There are honestly so many people that deserve the credit. I’d like to give a shout-out to someone who inspired me to create worlds in the art of directing, Magaly Perez! I remember watching her direct and having this epiphany! I remember saying “Oh this is something I NEED to do! “
