We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authentically being me. Though this took some time, I realized the true success behind my brand was authentically being me. There was once a time when I only posted food. Though I was behind the camera, my supporters had no idea who I was or what I was like as an individual.
Thankfully, I overcame my shyness and started authentically being me and showing more of who I was in my brand. Last year, I even went through a rebranding and changed my brand from “simsimmaeatstheworld” to “everytingsimsimma.” I rebranded simply to ensure that I was showcasing Sim Simma and everyting that’s authentically her.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was once that annoying girl who at dinner just had to get the perfect shot of their meal or the table before everyone ate. A cousin convinced me to take the leap and start documenting my meals via a blog on IG. I took her advice and did just that. Fast forward to today, I’ve incorporated carnival, travel, as well as drone footage to the type of content I provide.
I am most proud of how far I’ve come and how my platform has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone. I am also proud of my resilience as I’ve felt discouraged and wanted to just give up many times. I overcame these challenges by talking to other creatives in my community about ways in which I can push forward.
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned along the way is that saying no is ok. Saying no to promoting or collaborating with brands that do not align with your values or your work. If a brand does not align with your brand image in regards to your niche and/or morals, you should feel confident with saying no.
As I continue to grow my platform, I want the world (especially content creators) to know that being authentically you is what will make you successful in life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Cris, also known as @bahamianista, for always being a source of motivation and a shoulder to lean on and an ear to vent to! Appreciate you nuff!
