We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Colon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofia, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to remember how I never gave up. I always knew what I wanted to do and what I wanted out of this life and settling for anything less was never an option for me. Every road block I’ve hit and every “no” I’ve been told- I always found a way. I need my legacy to be a message of perseverance and hope.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
An aspect that I believe sets me apart is how I started; because I started working in corporate America for a cruise line- I was working behind the scenes for creative projects. I worked on reality tv filming, commercials, celebrity visits and concerts. I was quite literally learning what was needed from talents on set which then translates to when I’m the talent on set. There were so many times at my job that I couldn’t help shake the feeling of “I’m not where I need to be right now. I should be in front of the camera!”

Getting to where I am at today has not been easy and I would say the hardest battle through it all has been with myself. From dealing with self-doubt at times to impostor syndrome- your mind can really become your own worst enemy. Now that it’s a new year, I sat back and really asked myself “Sofia what do you want to change?” and my answer came down to- “I want to be there for myself more.”

I’m really excited to just get involved in new projects and meet more people in this industry that have the same passions and mindset like me. I didn’t grow up around a lot of creative people and teachers always focused more on education so I have always felt like that black sheep in my community- I never felt seen or understood and that’s something that I find so beautiful about Miami. Not only have I met incredibly talented people but those same people recognize something in me and that is all the validity you need; just one person to see your greatness. This new year I want to delve into more music and work with different musicians in different genres and dip into comedy!… who knows? Maybe there’s some standup in my future 😉

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooo this is a hard one just because there is SO much to do in Miami! But here we go…

Some of my favorite spots to eat in Miami are- Mi Rinconcito Mexicano on Calle 8 or Intimo in South Beach. Every time someone visits were visiting those spots no questions asked!!

Miami is the home of the mojito and if you’re not having one (or several hehe) at Ball & Chain- you didn’t do Miami right! Two other spots I really like to visit and this is more of late night Club vibes are- Jolene and Gala.

There is always something happening in Miami whether it’s a music, food, art, or film festival. I love being able to look at all the things happening in this city and just going with the flow. Miami Music Week ending with Ultra, Rolling Loud, Art Basel, etc- these events always light up the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My fiancé- Stefan Avram! He knew how miserable I was working my corporate job and he could see that sitting behind a desk was a waste of potential for me. He has always pushed me to pursue my talents and creative passions.
