We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Delli-Colli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was working as a hair stylist / colorist for 24 years at a salon. While working there I learned the business and identified some areas where I can improve and optimize. I saw an opportunity for a a great space for rent I decided to go for it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a colorist and I love what I do. I have been in the industry for over 14 years now and it is something that I am really passionate about. What sets me apart from others is my creativity, my patience and my eagerness to learn new things.

It was not easy to become a professional hair stylist, but I managed to do it with hard work and dedication. I had to overcome many challenges such as moving to the US from France where I got my degree as a professional hairstylist and colorist. The lessons that I learned along the way are invaluable.

The first lesson that I learned is that you should always be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses. This will help you determine what type of profession you would be best suited for as well as what skillset you should improve on in order to succeed in your career.

The second lesson that I learned is that it is important to stay up-to-date with trends in your field of expertise because they change often and if you don ’t keep up, it can hurt your career.

Lesson 3: It is important to be a good listener, I thought that I knew a lot about my profession, but it was very eye-opening to hear what the people who actually lived the process had to say. In particular, the way they felt about it, the obstacles they faced, and the way that their perceptions of success and failure had changed over time were extremely significant.

I am most proud of the fact that I always put my clients first. That means listening to what they want, understanding their needs and always trying to deliver the best possible service for them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami is a great city with a lot to offer. There are many things that you can do in Miami, from the beach to the nightlife.

I would take them to South Beach to see all the amazing sights and sounds. You can walk along the beach and enjoy the sun, or go for a swim. If you’re feeling hungry, there are plenty of restaurants in South Beach that serve food from all over the world. I could also take them out for drinks at one of many bars in Brickell or Lincoln Road Mall – both areas have some of Miami’s most popular bars and restaurants.

The best time ever? That sounds like it could be an experience they will never forget!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Dmitry. He is a businessmen and he encouraged me to go for it. He was a driving force in me quitting my job and starting a new salon. He oversaw the entire project from the design, construction, permits, up until grand opening,. I’m very grateful that I have a person like him in my life.
