We had the good fortune of connecting with Speakeasy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Speakeasy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I create music to help myself… to understand, to express, to cope… and I make it available for others in case it can help them, too.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is unique because it tells my story from my point of view. When we share our experience with others, we give them a window into our perspective on the life we all share, a chance to see themselves in us. I’m most proud of my album, Dad’s Truck Mix, because I feel it is a true reflection of myself. I’m excited to share it with more and more people because every new listener is a new opportunity to connect! Creating it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It took time, effort and dedication to not only find the truth in my experience but to also articulate it in a way that resonates with me deeply. Faith is what got me to the finish line, faith in the idea that I am valuable as I am. And, if that’s true, my story is valuable, too. If you take only one thing away from sharing my experience, I hope it is an understanding that the same goes for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from Palm Springs about an hour drive north of Miami. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been down and that’s because they’ve all been for performances. That being said, Lincoln’s Beard Brewing Co. & Thank You Miami are two dope spots with delicious food, great drinks and shvibey atmospheres.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my success to so many people! I write, produce and record all of my songs myself but I might never have started writing at all without my homie Zoe who I first started writing raps with in high school. I wouldn’t have the tools to produce without my computer that my mom got me or my DAW (digital audio workstation) that my grandfather gave me as a Christmas gift when he heard about me using the trial version. And I wouldn’t be able to record my writtens over the beats I produce without the professional-grade microphone my dad got me so I didn’t have to use the cheap performance mic I recorded the vocals for my first mixtape with. I wouldn’t be inspired to create without all of the beautiful friends and family I have the privilege of sharing my life with. Every person I’ve crossed paths with, from my best friend to that random person I met at a show one time and never saw again, is responsible in some way for the creation of who I am today and the art I create to express myself.
