We had the good fortune of connecting with Spinny and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spinny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been into both dance and fitness and thought it was about time to share my passion with the world. I fused both together and created an aerobic fitness cultural dance session named Spin Pooch with Spinny

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I refer to myself as a Wuk-up Artist. Wukking-up is a style of dance we do in my home country Barbados. Its done through out the Caribbean but different countries have different names for it. For example some might call it whineing.

What sets me apart from other aerobic sessions is that the foundation of Spin Pooch with Spinny is set on our dance style at our Caribbean Festivals & Carnivals. Picture aerobic movements but fused with wuking up and Caribbean music. We promise to burn calories and its a high paced user friendly challenge. We give the burn but the moves are super simple that everyone can follow.

Today we can safely say the brand is an international brand. We got here today because the beautiful people of Barbados welcomed the Cultural Cardio sessions with open arms and that allowed the rest of the world to see the vibe and fall in love with it. The love shown on social media platforms is crazy.

It definitely was not easy. I’ve been told by many Im doing fitness wrong, I’ve been told I won’t last 2 weeks just to name a few of the negatives but I can say that the love received from the people outweighed any negative words and Im truly blessed and thankful of the people of Barbados and I can safely add today the people of the world.

I’ve learned that to always believe in yourself. Plan and execute while acknowledging you need to remain open minded enough to pivot because everything will not go according to plan.

I want the world to know that the journey of 1000 miles begin with 1 single step and the journey has now begun. We’re going to make sure that we make working out and preparing for our festivals and carnivals remain as fun as possible. Our slogan reads “Whoever said cardio was boring, never met Spinny

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting my home land Barbados I would definitly take them to Oistins, Oistins has great food. I will also take them to St Lawrence Gap. The night life there is a vibe. My favourite to eat spot tho is not in Oistins tho. I would have to take them by The Grill Queen aka Kim for the best Ribs & Chips in Barbados. Fun things to do in Barbados the beach is a must. Jet-ski, catamaran cruise, paddle boarding, surfing. All sea activities is a must

If in Miami my favourite thing to do is Go Karting. I believe I’m the best driver there is and its loads of fun. I keep it simple with the food and go places like Denny’s and TGIF. Sky diving is a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my immediate team. Michael Holder was on board from the start. Paul Merks, Tristan Brathwaite, Jessica Reid, Je-lisa Hallett. These people were on board before I had even done 1 class. I told them about my idea and they all pitched in to make sure that it worked. I will go on to also mention Nandi Yard for inspiring me to pick back up my dancing shoes.
