We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Ann Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy Ann, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The best way to live life is on your own terms. I appreciate freedom. While a 9-5 does provide some level of stability, there are so many restrictions and drawbacks. Your growth is determined by someone else. The days that you are allowed to be sick and take time off are determined by someone else. The amount of time you spend on doing the things you love and spending time with the people you love is determined by someone else. I love the freedom of being able to work when I want, play when I want, rest when I want etc. I knew it was going to be challenging, but that’s exactly what motivated me as well. The reward far outweighs the effort. The growth far outweighs the struggle. The challenges you face as an entrepreneur truly build you far more than a 9-5 could. Quite frankly, entrepreneurs are built differently.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is that I am not afraid to be myself and I am not afraid to speak up for what is important to me. My art is an extension of who I am and what I believe in and as an individual who prides themselves on being unique, my work never looks ‘commercialised’. I am proud of the impact my work has on others. It feels amazing for strangers to come up to me and tell me just how positive or relatable they feel when they see my work.

I am excited about executing upcoming projects that I have been working on for years which I hope will start some meaningful conversations about some concerning topics we are all facing but are too afraid to talk about.

It was not easy reaching where I am now, but I never once felt like I wanted to give up. One does not simply find their purpose in life and turn away from it. I overcome challenges by not stopping. Actionable ambition accentuates attraction. If I feel down, I work on a project. You don’t have time for distractions when you are focused on things that are meaningful. It also helps a lot that I have tremendous support from my family, friends and even strangers.

I have learnt that community is important. Always understand that there is no need to be cutthroat. There are billions of people in this world. I have no problem sharing the work of other artists because not everyone is going to resonate with my work. Someone who follows me may resonate more with the work of a colleague of mine and that is fine. I am not better than them, nor are they better than me. It is our differences that make us so wonderful. It is our differences that make us stand out and it is our differences that allow us to be teachable and to be able to teach.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
River and beach hopping is a thing on my beautiful island of Jamaica. From Sommerset Falls in Portland, White River in St Ann/St Mary, Martha Brae River in Trelawny, Doctor’s Cave Beach in St James, 7 Mile Beach in Negril, Treasure Beach in St Elizabeth…oooh chile! A week is way too short.

For food, you can’t go wrong with Boston Jerk (Portland), Triple Tz Eatery (Kingston), Father Bull (on the border of Trelawny & St James), Pork Pit (St James), Bamboo Joint Restaurant (Hanover) and of course the TreeTop Bar at Lashings (St Elizabeth).

We would definitely have to break out dancing on a Friday night at Pier One (St James) and try our luck with skating at Yard Skating Rink (St James).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, there are so many people that have been with me on my journey. There is one individual, however, that has been a constant. I would like to give a shoutout to Warren Minto. He has taught me so much about photography and cinematography. We have been on many creative adventures and he has been with me from my very first professional photoshoot. I am grateful for all he has taught me, all the effort he has put into my growth and for all the inspiration he provides to those around him with his growth. He is an amazing individual. I would also like to give a shoutout to my daughter, Abrielle Cornaldie, who always reminds me that I am wonderful and that my art is beautiful.
