We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy-Laurine Shirley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy-Laurine, what do you want your legacy to be?
To feel insignificant in the grand scheme of things is an unwanted and sucky feeling. I knew I had to do something, build a name for myself and leave something to show for. I want my legacy to be my soul was pure. Everything I do in this life time I want it to be remembered for its good intentions and the purpose it served in society. I believe our ultimate creator is a being of light and goodness so I need for that to reflect in everything I do. Apart from my creative endeavors I would like to start a humanitarian project where doctors and essential workers around the world can sign up with my agency and travel in groups all around the world helping those in need especially 3rd world countries. My legacy has to be that I chose goodness in a world so dark.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m considered an entrepreneur I would say. My business endeavors include hairstyling, makeup, creative directing, acting and vending products. What sets me apart from others or from some is that I can do all these things and I thought myself how to do so. Something that also sets me a part is that I do creative shoots for a bigger picture (social projects making statements for the greater good). The fact that I’m resilient enough to keep going even with very little recognition is something I’m proud of, I’m just not ready to give up when I’ve only just begun. I’m also proud of my work ethic, I want to see me and my team on the big screen one day how could I let up now? I’m excited to bring all of these ideas in my head to life, the world is in for a treat. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today and I’m still facing many challenges, I recently joined a salon but that was short lived, I was I’ll prepared but now I know what steps to take when I’m ready to open up a salon/creative space of my own. My mental health is also a huge challenge because being able to create content and stay on top of things and reach my full potential feels impossible sometimes. I got to where I am by constantly studying new things that I need to know in the beauty industry, I got here due to resilience. I’ve learned that business is business and to leave personal life behind especially since I want to be in charge of something so big, but I’ve also learn to not lose sight of my humanity. My brand must stand for goodness so I must keep love in my heart. Business is business yes but we are all people trying our best that’s an important thing to keep in mind. I am a talented individual but also I feel as though my purpose is grand as if I’m here to be an advocate for goodness and mercy after life. Regardless I want the world to know I was here and why. Still figuring that out for myself of course I’m only 22.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I actually do not get out enough. I’m either always working or in school, other than the beach, amc movie theaters and some events here and there I honestly can’t tell you my favorite spot in the city. Well this question is definitely making me see what I need to do different this year. Get out more and explore my city!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I didn’t give enough credit to those in my life when I first did my interview. After some well needed reflection and soul searching I have to thank God, the cosmic source that keeps me afloat when I feel so tired and ready to give up. The positive thoughts that instantly cloud my mind once I let out one negative comment about my endeavors. I’m ever so grateful for my spirituality because it gives me strength beyond what words can ever describe. I’d like to thank my mother and father for doing their best with what little they had, they tried and I’ll be forever thankful because some people don’t have the luxury to say the same. Even with all their flaws I can say whole heartedly they did something right in raising me. My mothers unconditional love for me and my little sister is motivation. And thank you dad for uprooting us from the dangers we were facing back in Haiti in 2004, to bring us to a country of better opportunities. Thanks to everyone who believes in me, prays for me, I won’t let you guys down, and thank you Voyage Miami for this platform for my voice and my accomplishments,
