We had the good fortune of connecting with Stella Belizaire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stella, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and within my 24 years of living I’ve lived in West Palm Beach & Palm Bay as a child, moved back to Fort Lauderdale in middle school & moved to Chicago, IL after graduating from high school. Chicago wasn’t for me so I found my way back to Lauderdale but I can honestly say that move made me who I am today. It made me more comfortable with myself and I became more intune with myself. My background and upbringing has a major impact on who I am today as well because I was raised by both my mother and grandmother from my father’s side. They are both independent women and they always made it happen with what they had. My grandmother is from Haiti and doesn’t speak English, she woke up every morning and still made a way from selling clothes to selling food outside of her house and more. My mom was juggling two jobs and school with two girls. I feel that’s why both me and my sister are so independent and go getters!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from other fashion brands is that my designs are by hand and I can sketch everyone of my designs out myself or I will freestyle and sew just off the top of my head. I am excited for the future because I am taking a whole different route for my business and feel that this move is going to change my life for the better forever. It was not easy getting to this point! I started sewing 2016/2017, I started off with denim sandals, I did prom dresses, evening wear, swimwear and more. Prom season was one of the most stressful times I’ve experienced but I’m glad I did because it made my business what it is today due to so many trials and errors! Due COVID, I no longer do prom dresses. During the pandemic I discovered the route I really wanted to take with my business and prom or any custom wear wasn’t it. I fell in love with bringing my own designs to life in collections rather than remaking something that someone saw online. I admire the whole process from sourcing out fabrics, cutting and sewing the samples, choosing perfect models, photo shoots, setting up websites and inventory, releasing a collection & packing and shipping each product! I want the world to know that this is only the beginning for Estella B!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When it comes to going out I love good vibes, good food, amazing scenery! It’s a few lounges in Broward that I like, Velvet Lounge, Oak Bar & Upper Deck but the real vibes are in Miami. Miami has the vibes day and night, sometimes we will have a yacht day which is the best thing to do with the right group of friends! The restaurants in Miami are bomb such as BarOne & Victory Lounge which is all black owned. Then at the end of the night we may end it off at a strip club like G5 or the Office!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out to my big sister Breanna Belizaire, I used to follow her around all the time as a kid! She motivates me in many ways she wouldn’t even realize! She also has her own business with establishing personal & business credit along with filing taxes! Ariel Consulting Services is the name check her out!
I would also love to shout out to my boyfriend. He’s the other half in my support system and the other half of me, he always reminds me who I am and what I am capable of! We are both driven to get the life that we deserve and I couldn’t ask for anything better.
