We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Gowdy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art has always saved me in my darkest moments in life. Ironically when I lost my eyesight it kept me sane and when on strict bed rest for three and half months and so many other times God used my talent to help see me through. Between the feeling art gives me and family confirming that I do have an actual talent I pushed myself to truly share my journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am Stephanie Gowdy also known as Alyrical a visual artist born and raised in South Florida. As an artist I work with acrylic on canvas along with mixed media graphite and charcoal on paper for portraits. Despite my many struggles in life such as being diagnosed with epilepsy, divorce, and literally losing sight and becoming legally blind I continue to use my inner vision to live out my purpose.
I want my art to be for everyone, using it to not only create awareness for multiple topics but bring society together. One of my favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 29:18 “where here is no vision people perish.” I refuse to allow my life setbacks, health issues, or the loss of my sight to stop me from sharing my vision and inspiring others to follow their dreams.

I create what people can’t say.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Open Mic Nights Anchor church
Family time
Yaadman Jamaican Restaurant
Festivals/concerts
The beach

I just enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends we don’t have to specifically be doing anything

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been so many people on my journey especially after losing my sight that have pushed and inspired me to create regardless I can’t dedicate this to one specific person.
